GIS & MODELING TECHNOLOGIST
Transform 3D Point Cloud Data into Precision Engineering Models!
Why this Role
Encepta is growing! We're building a cutting-edge team to transform 3D point cloud data into precision-engineered models. Be part of an innovative process that's reshaping how telecom infrastructure is designed and deployed across Canada.
You'll work at the intersection of GIS and engineering design, cleaning and structuring data in GIS platforms and building base models in Engineering Analysis Software.
This is a hands-on technical role in a beta, rapidly evolving process. If you're an analytical, detail-oriented technologist and passionate about maps, 3D data, and continuous process improvement, this role is for you!
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Reporting to our Manager, Operations, you will transform 3D point cloud data into precision-engineered telecom models. Working closely with fielding teams, GIS specialists, and engineering partners, your responsibilities will include:
- Process and clean 3D point cloud feature extraction data using GIS tools
- Normalize attributes, resolve geometry issues, and execute standard scripts and models in ArcGIS Pro
- Import processed data into Engineering Analysis Software and construct accurate base pole loading models
- Validate structure attributes (poles, spans, guys, anchors, attachments) and apply standard load cases
- Identify missing or inconsistent data, collaborate with fielding and design teams to enhance processes, document data anomalies, and recommend process improvements
What Success Looks Like
Within your first 12–18 months, you'll be:
- Processing and cleaning 3D point cloud data with high accuracy and consistency using ArcGIS Pro
- Building quality base pole loading models in Engineering Analysis Software with verified structure attributes
- Developing efficient workflows and documentation that improve data processing and modeling standards
- Identifying and flagging data inconsistencies while coordinating effectively with fielding and design teams
- Contributing to process improvements as our beta workflows evolve into production-ready systems
What We're Looking For
- GIS & Technical Proficiency: 1–5+ years of experience in GIS (mapping, editing, geoprocessing), utility/telecom design, or similar fields; experience working with structured 3D point cloud data is an asset
- Educational Background: Diploma or degree in computer science, geomatics, GIS, engineering technology, or related technical field or equivalent combination of experience and training;
- Engineering Analysis Tools: Experience with pole loading tools (SpidaCalc or similar) or strong willingness to learn;
- Data Integration & Problem-Solving: Ability to work across GIS platforms and engineering software, identify data inconsistencies, and work confidently with scripts, models, and evolving workflows suggesting process improvements;
- Adaptability & Learning: Openness to working in a beta, rapidly evolving process; comfort with long stretches of focused screen work and picking up new technical tools as needed
What's In It for YOU?
We know that when you grow, we grow. That’s why we offer more than just a job, we offer a launchpad for your career:
- Real impact: help expand critical infrastructure that connects communities across Canada
- Career growth: move from field specialist to project specialist
- Hybrid work model: flexibility to work remotely, in-office, and on-site as needed
- Competitive compensation: including performance incentives
- Comprehensive benefits: extended health benefits (dental & HSA), RRSP matching, cellphone allowance, learning budget, and wellness support
- Learning support: access to certifications, training, and a team that invests in your development
- Collaborative, inclusive culture: we value your voice, your safety, and your contribution
