Job Description
The Designer is a highly motivated, organized and knowledgeable individual willing to contribute their knowledge and expertise to our team, specifically in the design of fire protection systems.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
Review all projects assigned by the Construction Operations Manager, identify information gaps, and promptly report any missing or unclear details.
Design fire protection systems in accordance with applicable local codes, project specifications, and company standard operating procedures.
Develop system drawings using AutoSPRINK RVT or HydroCAD and AutoCAD, ensuring compliance with company drafting standards and project requirements.
Generate hydraulic calculations using AutoSPRINK or HydroCAD’s calculation tools, meeting all regulatory and internal performance criteria.
Provide regular project-status updates to the Construction Operations Manager, project managers, and other key stakeholders.
Participate in coordination meetings as required to support effective project delivery.
Prepare IFC (Issued for Construction) and As-Built drawings based on verified site information and client-provided documentation.
Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders—including sprinkler installation crews, general contractors, architects, consultants, building owners, local building officials, and fire inspectors—to ensure successful project outcomes.
Conduct pre-design site surveys to collect all necessary field information for accurate fire-protection system design.
Complete additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Construction Operations Manager.
Qualifications:
Technical diploma or degree in fire protection, mechanical, architectural, construction technology, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant technical experience.
5+ years of experience in fire protection design, preferably within a construction environment.
Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including the OBC, NBC, and NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, 14, and 20.
Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and construction drawings across multiple disciplines (fire protection, architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical).
Proficiency with AutoSPRINK RVT, HydroCAD and AutoCAD for system layout, modelling, and design documentation.
Experience with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites throughout Southern Ontario.
Previous experience in the fire protection construction industry is considered an asset.
Familiarity with design software such as AutoSPRINK RVT or HydrocCAD is a strong asset.
Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and a reliable work ethic.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written, when interacting with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and problem-solve efficiently in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
