Job Purpose?
The Senior Manager, Development will support CAMFED Canada’s development efforts by managing and growing a portfolio of donors and funding partners, including foundations, institutions, and selected government or corporate supporters. The role will lead on preparing proposals, budgets, and donor reports, ensuring compliance and supporting effective relationships across assigned partnerships. Working closely with the Executive Director and colleagues across CAMFED’s global offices, the Senior Manager will contribute to strategic planning, provide support in representing CAMFED Canada externally with partners, and in internal forums related to development priorities. The role will also supervise and mentor junior team members, strengthening capacity within the CAMFED Canada team, while helping to secure and sustain funding partnerships that advance CAMFED’s mission.
Key Accountabilities:
Grant Development, Management, and Compliance
Supporting CAMFED Canada’s strategic priority of maintaining accountability to stakeholders.
Support CAMFED Canada’s development efforts by managing a portfolio of grants, including complex multi-country grants from donor partners such as foundations, institutions, and high-value government or corporate partners.
Ensure donor requirements for targets, outputs and outcomes, and timelines are clearly communicated to CAMFED Canada implementing partner teams, while maintaining effective relationships across CAMFED partners to ensure the achievement of stated program goals, and communicating any necessary changes to the relationship manager and funding partner.
Keep accurate records, timelines, and manage reporting schedules to ensure smooth portfolio delivery.
Support accountability to Canadian government (CRA) regulations - including maintaining clear overview of funds flowing from Canada to other countries in accordance with both funder requirements and ways of working within the CAMFED consortium..
Proposal & Reporting
Lead the preparation of donor proposals, budgets, and reports in collaboration with Finance, Programs, MERL, and colleagues across CAMFED offices.
Ensure reports and proposals meet donor requirements and clearly communicate CAMFED’s impact.
Quality assure written output including designated reports, proposals and other written updates, with an eye to accuracy, consistency, impact/appropriateness, risk mitigation and strategic positioning.
Coordinate and quality assure other donor-facing materials (including third party giving and charity assessment websites), ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with CAMFED’s global development priorities.
Strategic Input & Risk Management
Work with the Executive Director and Fundraising Senior Management, on solicitation efforts for priority donor partnerships, supporting the preparation and coordination of proposals, concept notes, and related materials.
Identify risks within assigned contracts and partnerships and support colleagues in developing mitigation strategies.
Contribute to CAMFED’s improvement of development processes and knowledge management systems to support donor stewardship and reporting.
Representation & Coordination
Provide support in representing CAMFED Canada externally with partners, including preparing materials, presentations, briefings, and participating in meetings where appropriate.
Represent CAMFED Canada in internal forums and working groups related to development priorities, ensuring Canadian donor perspectives are reflected.
Team Leadership & Capacity Building
Supervise and mentor Development team members, supporting their growth and strengthening team capacity in development, reporting, and compliance.
Share best practices and contribute to building a collaborative, learning-focused Development team.
Provide line management, assist with recruitment and onboarding of team members, as required.
Professional Experience, Qualifications & Attributes
Commitment and passion for CAMFED’s values, mission and vision.
Bachelor’s degree in international development, Social Science, Business Administration, or related fields (master’s degree preferred.)
Demonstrated experience in grant or program management, or comparable experience in the international development sector demonstrating relevant/transferable skills and experience.
Highly developed project management skills and ability to multitask with high levels of initiative and ownership, to effectively manage the delivery of high-quality work.
Demonstrated success managing grant portfolios and delivering proposals and reports.
Strong proposal development, budget coordination, and reporting skills.
Experience managing complex, multi-year grants and partnerships from diverse funding sources.
Experience managing staff and mentoring colleagues with proven ability to build team capacity.
Excellent relationship management skills (with clients, partners, other team members), commercial sense, diplomacy, and keen awareness of risk, with the ability to work across cultures and time zones.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Current eligibility to work in Canada without requiring sponsorship or work permit.
