Summary:
The Clinical Counsellor for Foundry Tri-Cities will work within the Walk in Counselling Program attached to Foundry's integrated services. The counsellor will provide intake, assessment, treatment and crisis intervention to youth and families/caregivers attending Foundry Tri-Cities. The counsellor will develop and implement treatment plans for youth with mental health and substance use issues, within Foundry's Integrated Stepped Care Model and on a walk-in basis. They will establish supportive and trusting relationships that promote mental health and wellness and reduce client risk.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide counselling to individuals and families to support the client in managing current risks and crisis and to increase their effectiveness in dealing with future concerns and/or challenges. This will include:
Working collaboratively with the persons served to provide case management and risk assessment, goal setting, planning, counselling, closure and where appropriate, follow up.
Acting as case manager, to work with the person(s) served to coordinate/collaborate with other service providers and stakeholders.
Maintaining appropriate and timely documentation, client information system and tracking systems.
For those who participate in the Internship Program, providing instruction, regular supervision of assigned interns, ensuring the Intern’s adherence to agency policy and practices.
Participating in regular quality assurance reviews, case and team consultation/supervision and meetings as required.
Participating in program development.
Liaising and referral with community agencies, committees, professionals.
Participate in and support agency activities, vision, mission and values.
Ensure that work practices comply with agency health and safety standards, program policies and procedures and administrative records are complete, timely and accurate.
Qualifications – Education/Experience
A graduate degree in counselling, social work, psychology or a related field.
One (1) year counselling experience specifically with high-risk youth, and their families, with mental health and substance use issues.
Other Skills & Abilities:
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Knowledgeable about solution focused counselling theories and practices, risk assessment and case management.
Demonstrate ability to plan, lead, and evaluate groups.
Knowledge and experience with group education, skill building, counselling, and support techniques.
Have the ability to work respectfully and in partnership with other team members, including referring authorities.
Have basic computer and Internet skills
Other Job requirements:
Criminal records check clearance, including vulnerable sector clearance.
Follow the Code of Ethics and the Mission Statement of SHARE Family & Community Services.
The counsellor must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate clients, sessions, and groups, meet outside of typical office hours, and deal with crises.
Some driving is required to attend meetings and to enable contact with youth/families at home or in the community. The counsellor must have a valid driver's license and safe, reliable transportation, and must obtain appropriate insurance as per Society policy.

Location: Port Coquitlam
Hours: 35 hours per week, to be scheduled in consultation with supervisor. Some evening hours may be required
