Summary:
We are a large, PE-backed recurring revenue business with ~5,000 employees and a highly acquisitive growth strategy. We are seeking a Payroll Supervisor to help lead payroll operations, ensure compliance, and manage a team responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing across multiple entities. This role will oversee payroll staff, drive process improvements, and partner with HR and Finance to deliver a seamless employee experience while maintaining strong internal controls.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management
Supervise payroll specialists and coordinate daily payroll operations.
Provide training, mentorship, and performance feedback to payroll team members.
Allocate workload and ensure deadlines are consistently met.
Payroll Oversight
Oversee bi-weekly or semi-monthly payroll cycles for employees across multiple U.S. states.
Review and approve payroll reports, reconciliations, and adjustments.
Ensure accurate handling of PTO, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and deductions.
Compliance & Governance
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations (FLSA, tax laws, etc.).
Ensure proper documentation and adherence to internal controls.
Support quarterly and annual filings (W-2, 941, unemployment reports).
Strategic Initiatives
Lead payroll system upgrades, integrations, and automation projects.
Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability.
Manage onboarding of newly acquired entities into payroll systems.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with HR and Accounting to maintain accurate employee data.
Serve as escalation point for complex payroll inquiries and issue resolution.
Qualifications:
5+ years of U.S. payroll experience, including multi-state payroll.
Prior supervisory or team lead experience in payroll operations.
Strong knowledge of wage & hour laws and payroll compliance.
High proficiency in Workday and ADP payroll systems (experience with UKG, Paylocity, or similar is a plus).
Advanced Excel skills and ability to manage large datasets.
Experience in PE-backed or high-growth environments. (Preferred)
CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC certification. (Preferred)
Background in M&A payroll integration. (Preferred)
