The Safety Training Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating and maintaining all legislated, contractual, and operational training across the City of Fredericton, excluding the Fredericton Fire Department and the Fredericton Police Force. Reporting directly to the Corporate Safety Officer within the Corporate Services Department, this role ensures compliance with New Brunswick Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation and Municipal Records Authority (MRA) requirements, while supporting employee safety, operational readiness, and workforce development.
Qualifications Required:
Education
Post secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Training, Development, or a related field.
Knowledge of OHS legislation, WorkSafe NB requirements, and municipal safety standards.
Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in training coordination, safety compliance, or related field.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience with training record systems, compliance tracking, and program development.
Strong background in equipment and operator training considered an asset.
What You’ll Do:
Training Coordination & Compliance
Coordinate all legislated, contractual, and operational training across departments.
Develop and maintain centralized training records and tracking systems to ensure compliance and timely recertification.
Ensure training documentation and certificates are readily available for audits and compliance requests.
Equipment & Specialty Training
Organize operator certification for loaders, graders, and other machinery, including annual refresher sessions.
Manage specialty training for vehicles such as vacuum trucks, flushers, sweepers, Zambonis, and boom trucks.
Support driver’s license upgrades within Engineering & Operations (Transit, Water & Sewer, Roadway Operations, Parks & Trees).
Collaboration & Oversight
Work with Fleet Services to coordinate orientation and training for newly acquired equipment.
Collaborate with the Water Division to ensure training requirements are met for water system approvals, including FACE training and safety certifications.
Partner with the E&O Joint Health and Safety Committee to identify training needs based on incident history and corrective actions.
Liaise with FFD and FPF training units to identify opportunities for shared training initiatives.
Collaborate with Human Resources to develop occupational profiles and onboarding requirements related to training.
Safety & Employee Engagement
Ensure departmental training remains current to meet WorkSafeNB obligations (First Aid, WHMIS, Forklift, Zoom Boom, Scissor Lift, Trenching, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, Fall Protection), etc.
Participate in employee orientation programs for seasonal and full-time staff.
Assist divisions in developing comprehensive training programs tailored to operational needs.
Coordinate third-party training events to maximize cost-effectiveness and ensure consistency.
Lead divisional Safety Days and support ongoing employee engagement initiatives related to training.
Other duties as assigned.
