We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Second Assistant Golf Course Manager to join our Grounds team. Working under the supervision of the Golf Course & Grounds Manager, and Assistant Golf Course Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient, high-quality maintenance and operation of the golf course and surrounding grounds. This role supports planning, scheduling, supervision, and hands-on maintenance activities while helping guide and develop the grounds team.
The successful candidate will bring strong agronomic knowledge, leadership skills, and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
What You’ll be Doing:
Assist in managing and maintaining the golf course, clubhouse grounds, landscaping, tennis courts, wooded areas, maintenance equipment, and other designated club property.
Support planning and execution of course construction, renovation, and reconstruction projects.
Oversee and participate in daily course set up (tee marker placement, mowing, bunker maintenance, irrigation, fertilization, and pesticide application).
Conduct regular inspections to ensure the property and equipment are safe for members, guest, and staff.
Carry out turf renovation procedures for greens, tees, and fairways.
Assist with winter operations including plowing, tree work, hardware restoration, tennis bubble maintenance, ice rink maintenance, and related tasks.
Support the Assistant Golf Course Manager in hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating grounds team members.
Act as the Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Golf Course Manager, or Lead Second Assistant in their absence.
Maintain accurate records of inventory, weather data, equipment, and pesticide use.
Operate and monitor irrigation systems and pump stations.
Assist with budget monitoring and cost control.
Enforce health and safety policies, conduct inspections, and support accident-prevention initiatives.
What We’re Looking for:
Minimum High school diploma (Grade 12) required.
Post-secondary education in Horticulture or Turf Management required.
2–3 years of experience on a grounds crew, preferably at a private golf course.
Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices.
Experience operating turf management equipment.
Ability to work under pressure during peak periods while maintaining professionalism.
Knowledge of federal, provincial, and local regulations related to golf course operations.
Ability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Reliable and punctual.
Certifications
Provincial pesticide applicator certification (required).
Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
Certified IPM Agent certification (required within one year of hire).
