The Manager, Environmental Sustainability is central to advancing our purpose by implementing enterprise-wide sustainability initiatives and fostering collaboration across teams.
Reporting to the Vice President of Environmental, Social and Governance (VP, ESG), this role will work across the company to implement and measure environmental sustainability initiatives that support the organization’s social purpose, ESG Strategy and Three-Year Plan. The role’s focus will be prioritizing energy and greenhouse gas emission reduction projects across our building portfolio in partnership with the Property Management, Asset Management and Operations teams. Responsibilities also include overseeing energy and emissions data, coordinating third-party limited assurance for environmental metrics, and handling the reporting and disclosure of this data in our annual ESG report, as well as to external standards, municipal partners, and utilities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support other business units in the implementation of environmental sustainability actions identified in its ESG Strategy and Three-Year Plan.
Lead ESG reporting initiatives including third party assurance on key environmental data, included within our annual ESG report, and disclosures with external third-party standards, utilities and municipalities.
Monitor, analyse and implement data verification controls for Concert’s energy and emissions management software, improving data over time and producing timely reports.
Plan and track progress against energy and emissions targets across the portfolio and collaborate with teams internally to drive progress.
Educate and promote the ESG Strategy and Roadmapwith internal and external stakeholders.
Act as an inhouse research and technical resource for environmental sustainability related inquiries and projects.
Support the development and execution of retrofit projects that result in cost savings and lower energy and emissions.
Stay appraised of, and when applicable, apply for incentives from government and utilities to advance energy and emissions reduction projects.
Work with the VP, ESG to support the alignment of energy and emissions reduction projects with the capital planning and approval process.
Help coordinate and present any applicable employee awareness training on environmental sustainability.
Submit a quarterly assessment to utility partner, outlining all completed, current and planned projects that will result in energy and emissions savings.
Required Knowledge & Skills
Education should include one of the following: a master’s degree in sustainability, planning, or engineering. Or an undergraduate degree supplemented with relevant experience, and or the completion of one of the following: BCIT SEMAC (Sustainable Energy Management Advanced Certificate), Douglas College Building Energy and Resource Management program certificate, Langara Energy Management Certificate, CIET Certified Energy Manager.
Demonstrated interest, enthusiasm and experience related to social purpose, sustainability and energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions management.
Familiarity and knowledge of energy efficient technologies (implementation of a project or attendance of a course).
Experience with energy and emissions standards and disclosure protocols (e.g. GHG Protocol).
Experience in capital project management in the field of corporate real estate.
Ability to develop compelling business cases and write comprehensive reports.
Experience in financial analysis, preparing and managing budgets.
Experience using common computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Excellent verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills and presentation skills.
Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to producing high quality work, including thorough self-review.
Strong team player, with willingness to assist others as needed.
Curious, enthusiastic and a desire and aptitude to grow and progress professionally within a supportive environment.
