As a Design Specialist II, you will contribute to the introduction of new technologies, apply modern engineering practices, and help ensure we continue delivering award-winning customer experiences on Canada’s leading wireless network.
What you’ll do
Support testing of LTE and 5G RAN hardware, software, and new feature integrations in the lab environment
Apply TELUS RAN testing requirements when reviewing and validating new features, software releases, and hardware
Assist in communicating TELUS RAN requirements to vendors and help review technical responses
Maintain and operate lab environments, ensuring readiness for cross-team testing activities
Perform lab-based proof-of-concept evaluations and interoperability testing to validate compliance with TELUS and industry standards
Document test results, issues, and recommendations to support design and performance improvements
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues and support feature validation
Contribute to continuous improvement of test processes, automation, and QA methodologies
What you bring
3–5+ years of experience in LTE/5G RF design, optimization, or performance analysis
Solid understanding of wireless technologies and RAN evolution including small cells, network
features, and cloud-native concepts
Familiarity with 3GPP specifications related to air interface, RRM, mobility, and RF compliance
Basic understanding of IP networking, video streaming, multicast, and associated protocols
Hands on experience with network and performance testing tools (e.g., QXDM, XCAL, TEMS, Actix)
Experience performing lab testing, writing test plans, and gathering requirements
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with an understanding of wireless KPIs and performance behaviour
Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or equivalent
Great-to-haves
Exposure to AI/ML concepts, automation frameworks, or scripting for test automation
Experience with IP-based services or security testing
Familiarity with large language models (LLMs) and their potential use in testing workflows
