SUMMARY
Working under general direction from the Maintenance Manager, Technical Services is responsible for providing mechanical assistance to the Maintenance team by preparing various tools and equipment required for production in all types of production equipment and throughout the facility. This includes but is not limited to assistance with set-ups and maintenance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct lock-out tag-out (LOTO), and provide technical and mechanical assistance to Set-up Technicians and licensed technicians (Electrician and Millwrights).
Prepare Jigs and Fixtures, as well as secondary equipment for production, and assist in changeovers between production runs.
Assist with preparation of moulds, dies and tooling equipment in a safe manner.
Clean dies and blow moulding components as needed during set-up.
Assist in preparing/pre-staging blow pins and setting up stretching unit and strikers during mould changeovers.
Participate in SMED, KAIZEN and continuous improvement activities as directed by maintenance leadership.
Transport mould, cooling lines, tooling and secondary equipment to and from storage.
Assist tooling technician in mould movement, and opening moulds for quick review after production.
Prepare leak testers and conduct minor maintenance activities with leak testers and sonic welders.
Conduct small fixture machining, fitting and repair based on directions of senior technicians.
Clean and prepare machines prior to, and after break down with the guidance of senior technicians.
Assist in, and conduct minor preventative maintenance (PM) activities and audits, as well as machine checks based on checklist, and complete documentation.
Assist in maintaining a log/inventory of hand tools and cutters for secondary equipment
Prepare hand tools and small fixtures to assist production personnel.
Input machine parameters during set-up, and conduct audits as required to ensure machine process remains consistent.
Read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
Install, align, dismantle and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, fans, conveyors according to layout plans using hand and power tools
Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes, jacks to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery.
Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions.
Install, troubleshoot and maintain power transmission, vacuum, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and programmable logic controls.
Adjust machinery and repair or replace defective parts
Operate machine tools such as lathes and grinders to fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance or set-up of machinery.
Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on machinery.
Construct foundations for machinery or direct other workers to construct foundations.
Assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand and power tools.
Consult manufacturer's manuals, circuit diagrams and blueprints to determine tests and maintenance procedures for instruments used for measuring and controlling flow, level, pressure, temperature and other variables.
Inspect and test operation of instruments and systems to diagnose faults using pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing devices and precision measuring instruments.
Repair and adjust system components, such as sensors, transmitters and programmable logic controllers, or remove and replace defective parts.
Assist in calibrating components and instruments according to manufacturers' specifications.
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance work and complete test and maintenance reports
Install control and measurement instruments on existing and new plant equipment and processes.
These duties and responsibilities may be altered or added to as required.

Able to read, and communicate verbally and in writing in the English language.
Able to manage multiple assignments simultaneously & must be able to work under minimum supervision.

Must be mechanically inclined, with strong attention to details.

QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an injection and/or blow-molding plastics manufacturing environment.
Post-secondary education or training specific to Electrical field of study preferred.
Forklift Operator's license considered an asset.
Experience working in a fast-paced and highly changing environment with limited supervision
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work conditions are consistent with a manufacturing plant environment. Technical Services requires a moderate degree of physical fitness, as the role requires him/her to lift and/or move up to 55 lbs. He/she must also be able to work near moving mechanical machinery, and must be able to work in an environment with high noise levels (hearing protection required).
