This role will require full-time, in-person attendance for the first 3–4 months to ensure thorough onboarding and training. After successfully learning the role, the position may transition to a hybrid schedule, with up to two days per week working from home.
The Blueprint
The Accountant is responsible for a wide range of financial and accounting tasks, including bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, tax compliance, and full cycle accounting. This role plays a critical part in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the overall financial health of the organization. The accountant is expected to have a high degree of attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
A Glimpse into Your Daily Activities
Accounting:
Performs full cycle accounts payable and bookkeeping for personal and corporate records.
Prepares monthly bank reconciliations and other account reconciliations.
Prepares various accounting summaries, reports, and financial working papers as required.
Prepares year-end financial statements, including related backup documents, for a group of corporations and personal family members.
Assists in treasury tasks by assessing bank account balances and recommending transfers for cash needs.
Reconciles monthly credit card statements with receipts.
Reconciles rental income and expenses for real estate investments.
Tracks cost basis for investment portfolios and calculates realized gains/losses.
Prepares cost reports for certain assets and analyzes/explains any material variances.
Prepares cash flow forecasts for family members.
Tax:
Prepares monthly HST filing and supporting schedules for remittance.
Prepares personal and corporate tax returns for review by the manager and tax group.
Prepares other tax slips, including T3s, T4s, T4As, T5s, and T5013s.
Prepares quarterly tax installment estimates for each family member.
General:
Prepares fund requisitions for approval by accountant/manager.
Processes cheque requests and payments as required.
Prepares and enters bank deposits.
Completes subscription documents for private investments. and Project Accountants.
Periodically performs other functions and special projects as assigned by the manager.
The Architect of Your Success
Post-Secondary Degree or Certificate in accounting, or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar accounting role.
Strong tax knowledge with corporate returns (T2) and personal returns (T1)
Strong attention to detail with an analytical aptitude and thorough problem-solving ability.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-task environment with rigid deadlines.
Ability to work independently, collaboratively, organize, and prioritize tasks as needed.
Experience with QuickBooks.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
Proficiency in tax software and related tools such as Caseware and Taxprep
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
A high degree of integrity and ethical conduct.
