The Opportunity
We are seeking a Surface Logistics Coordinator to support the execution and continuous improvement of our Surface Logistics Department. In this role, you will help optimize daily operations, ensure accurate and timely movement of freight, and contribute to developing processes that enhance service quality and customer satisfaction.
In addition, you will provide excellent customer service to current and future customers with regard to cross border road and rail transportation to and from Canada, USA and Mexico.
What You’ll Do
- Provide a first place of contact for Surface Logistic customer inquiries, concerns and complaints.
- Acknowledge and accept tenders from assigned customer accounts.
- Enter assigned customer orders into TMS (customer, origin and destination, commodities, equipment/notes, billing/payment info. Import/Export) other fields as required by customer.
- Rate shipments according to Customer Tariff or spot quote as providing by the Surface Logistics Pricing Manager.
- Responsible for the smooth movement of assigned shipments including; booking cost effective carrier partners.
- Provide spot quotes for assigned customers and sales department as necessary and assist with new projects to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Assist Department employees in the generation of various weekly and monthly reports, including month end billing if necessary.
- Provide back up support within department during busy periods, vacations and unexpected employee absences.
- The Surface Logistic Coordinator must be available after hours to respond to urgent calls and/or emails from assigned customers and Management.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures.
- Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or human resources.
- Perform all other job- related duties as required by management.
What You Bring
- Formal Academic training in a related field of study from two-year college or technical school and six months to one- year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Intermediate personal computer skills including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
