About the job
We’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Designer to take full ownership of the design and development process for our current products, as well as to spearhead the evolution of wearable robot design for the next generation.
Trexo's work doesn’t stop with children. We are working towards building mobility solutions for all.
This position is hybrid (3 days in the office).
About you
You want to work in a small team solving a big problem while helping an underserved community. You love designing and manufacturing mechanical products that closely couple with electrical and software systems. You are detail-oriented and love asking why many times till you understand something from first principles.
What you will do:
Lead design and development activities for mechanical systems working closely with other system leads.
Design, update, maintain and review specifications and drawings while following medical device standards and internal procedures.
Work on industrial design of components with manufacturing partners.
Evaluate non-conformances and implement corrections.
Follow medical device development process using our PLM and QMS.
Review product documentation for accuracy for customer use.
Support production and quality control teams and resolve issues quickly.
Assist customer support teams with complex troubleshooting issues.
Required Skills
At least 5 years of hands on experience designing and building electromechanical systems.
Previous experience working with different gear systems, couplers, and motors (designing and part selection).
Strong knowledge of DFM/DFA and GD&T/tolerance stack ups
Demonstrated experience in product design and successful transition to a medium-scale manufacturing setting (involving more than 100 units).
Extremely comfortable designing parts in Solidworks.
In-depth understanding of control systems and the mechanical design implications (control implications of selecting a certain motor or the mass for an actuator).
Previous experience with a simulation and FEA package.
Hands on experience with mechanical part failure analysis, and with with basic machining tools (mill, lathe, drill press).
Previous experience working with a PDM/PLM/QMS systems.
Previous experience working with external test labs for things like loading, temperature, packaging, labeling etc
Strong mathematical and physics background (comfortable reading research papers).
Strong critical thinking and analytical skills (able to piece together lots of information and condense it to something useful).
Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
Interest in exoskeletons.
Nice to Have
Robotics/exoskeletons experience.
Experience with medical device standards such as IEC 60601, 62366.
Experience design parts for injection molding, fabric stitching/straps, packaging.
Experience leading or building a small team.
