Our Asset Management and Maintenance Rail Fleet office is looking for an Engineering Lead- Locomotive Electrical to support our Locomotive State of Good Repair refurbishment works.
What will I be doing?
As the Engineering Lead for Locomotive Electrical you will provide oversight for the overhaul and refurbishment of the diesel locomotive fleet including review and approval of designs and modifications related to locomotive electrical systems and components.
Mentor, train and develop a highly skilled team of electrical engineers focused on locomotive engine overhaul including EMD 710 and Cummins QSK series electrical systems. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment where engineers can learn from each other and achieve their full potential.
Act as the central point for design, modification, and configuration management of rail vehicle electrical systems and components. Provide technical direction and oversight to ensure all design activities comply with regulatory requirements and Metrolinx's engineering standards.
Provide expert troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and technical guidance throughout all stages of vehicle and engine. Analyze engineering data, identify design issues, and develop effective solutions to improve vehicle performance and reliability.
Work effectively with internal stakeholders (maintenance, operations, procurement) and external partners (OEMs, suppliers) to ensure design excellence. Build strong relationships and foster open communication to ensure all parties are aligned with project goals and technical requirements.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
Technical Leadership: A highly skilled electrical engineer/technician with practical and hands-on in-depth technical knowledge essential to overseeing heavy overhaul and refurbishment of locomotives and diesel engines electrical systems, sub-systems, and components.
Completion of a University Degree in Engineering and rail sector or related industry experience, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
Demonstrated experience in the asset class, or related, engineering disciplines or a combination of safety assurance, design, testing and commissioning, operations, and maintenance of comparable railway systems in a comparable role.
P. Eng., designation or C.E.T. certification will be an asset
Knowledgeable in and able to deploy project management principles and practices, including budget and schedule controls and monitoring, review and reporting on overall progress and performance.
Knowledgeable in vendor management to be able to manage development and delivery of externally provided products and services (e.g. negotiate contracts, interpret, compile, and administer contracts).
Knowledgeable and able to support whole-life cost modeling to assure the long-term sustainability of the asset base.
Experience with Utilities companies and equipment, Transit Agencies, vehicle electrification or electric charger technologies.
