ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The Maintenance Planner will ensure that asset maintenance needs are translated
into plans and carried out in an effective manner. The Planner will scope and
define tasks that are carried out through work orders, providing details such as
work breakdowns and activities, priority, required parts or materials, and
specific trades required. Maintenance Planners are heavy users of the Enterprise
Asset Management (EAM) system, and coordinate with ongoing capital projects,
day-to-day maintenance, overhauls, and work campaigns to ensure that the
workflow is balanced against available resources.
MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the translation of asset maintenance needs into plans, ensuring
appropriate maintenance strategies are in place to meet department service
levels
- Lead the implementation and communication of new maintenance strategies or
changes
- Participate in Management Review activities lead the by Asset Manager, and
address needs related to staffing, process gaps, data gaps, funding, etc.
- Build and maintain a high level of competency with the EAM system in key
modules including asset management, work management, parts and inventory, and
other relevant maintenance modules
- Establish and set up Preventative Maintenance Plans in the EAM system,
including but not limited to time based maintenance plans, failure finding
and condition-based maintenance, predictive, etc.
- Support asset investment planning and forecasting by providing inputs on
maintenance strategies
- Identify and raise asset maintenance data gaps and take actions to resolve
them (e.g. errors with an inspection checklist item)
- Monitor asset performance to ensure maintenance plans and activities support
the required asset levels of service
- Monitor and forecast upcoming pre-planned work and ensure work orders are
generated, processed, and scheduled
- Review work orders that are designated for ‘planning’ and process work orders
to ‘waiting to be scheduled’ status and ‘scheduled’ status as needed
- Establish and maintain standard activities and checklists in the EAM system
- Coordinate with Supervisors to ensure the right information has been captured
when Emergency work orders have taken place
- Identify and plan the parts required for work orders
- Review and make decisions on changes to maintenance strategies and regimes,
e.g., Preventative Maintenance
- Gather input and feedback from Supervisors on maintenance and work order
progress in order to update plans
- Support business cases and funding requests where required
- Participate in the development and update of Asset Management Plans and
Capital Plan submissions when requested
- Lead the identification, development, and updates to asset performance
measures and conduct any asset management benchmarking activities
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum Secondary School Diploma
- College diploma, degree or trades certification in mechanical and/or
maintenance field preferred
- 5+ years’ experience in facilities management, industrial shop maintenance,
or operations environment with direct involvement in the maintenance
practices
- Experience with maintenance management tasks, including continuous
improvement of maintenance practices, asset performance monitoring, and
establishment of maintenance strategies
- Experience with Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) or Computerized Maintenance
Management Systems (CMMS) including preventative maintenance set up, job
scoping and planning, and job scheduling
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Outlook, Teams,
Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence front line,
technical staff and the ability to translate changes in maintenance to the
front-line staff
- Solid foundation of knowledge in asset management principals, including the
role of maintenance and work management as part of the asset management
system
- Commitment to company health and safety
