Camp Counsellor – Inclusion
Community Services department
(Full-time contract dates: June 29, 2026, to August 28, 2026)
Mandatory training dates: June 13, 19, 20, 22 and 23
Position description
The Town of Orangeville is seeking eight (8) candidates for the position of Camp Counsellor-Inclusion, to assist with the delivery of the Town’s 2026 Summer Camps, to support camp participants with exceptionalities.
Job duties
Facilitating daily activities and providing one-to-one or small group support to a participant(s) with an exceptionality in the summer camp program in a safe and enjoyable manner; and providing instruction and direction to campers with exceptionalities and adapting programming for campers as required
Responding to behavioural issues in accordance with the Town’s Code of Conduct Policy and working with the Camp Coordinator and Supervisor, Recreation & Events to ensure a supportive environment for both staff and participants; ensuring a safe program environment including inspecting outdoor play areas, materials and/or equipment for safety hazards and actively supervises the child and monitors their activities; and responding to inquiries from and/or liaising with the parent/guardian and program participants and elevating situations as appropriate.;
Accompanying campers to various locations safely; implementing strategies according to the intake process to set camper up for success; managing any behaviours and ensuring the dignity and respect of the camper in their care at all times and dealing with emergency situations in accordance to Town procedures; and maintaining confidentiality with any sensitive or personal information disclosed about the camper
Attending staff meetings; participating in pool activities as required; incorporating HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development into daily programming; and completing attendance.
Other duties as assigned.
The successful candidates will be expected to work some weekends depending on program and training needs. Mandatory camp training days are scheduled in June, and successful candidates must be available to work on Canada Day. Hours of work will be forty (40) hours per week during camps, depending on business needs.
Qualifications
Completion of Grade 11
Enrollment in a post-secondary education program related to recreation or education would be an asset
HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development would be an asset
Current Standard First Aid/CPR
Excellent communication skills and strong knowledge or inclusion and diversity as it relates to children with exceptionalities, and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Hourly Rate: $20.40 to $22.07 (2025 rate)

Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check, including either a vulnerable sector check or a criminal record and judicial matters check, as permitted under Ontario's Police Record Checks Reform Act, and in accordance with the duties of the position.
All Town student positions are subject to budget approval, and thus may be subject to change.
