The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) is a Crown corporation responsible for overseeing the Canadian federal interests in four international bridge crossings between Canada and the United States. Its mandate is to provide the highest level of stewardship so that the international bridges and associated structures are safe and efficient for users. FBCL owns, manages and operates international bridges and associated structures in Sault Ste. Marie, Point Edward, Lansdowne (Thousand Islands) and Cornwall, Ontario.
Position Summary:
The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited is seeking Maintenance Utility Summer Students to safely assist with bridge, plaza, shot and custodial tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Bridge Work 60%
Access tall structures safely and confidently to heights of up to 60 meters (200’);
Using pneumatic tools and/or other manual means, clean surfaces for recoating and recoat, as per FBCL standard procedures; and,
Power wash bridge surfaces and structural cleaning.
Plaza Work 15%
Help with setup and tear down lane closures;
Repair potholes in parking lots and property roadways;
Perform catch basin cleaning and maintenance manually; and,
Perform line painting at various locations on FBCL premises.
Shop Work 15%
Maintain a clean, organized and safe environment in and around the shop;
Ensure fleet vehicles and other heavy equipment is kept clean and clutter free; and
Carry out season related preparation activities such that the team is weather ready.
Custodial Work 10%
Clean building exteriors including glass surfaces, walkways & flowerbeds;
Clean building interiors including hallways, offices, kitchens & bathrooms;
Sweep and clean fry-truck areas; and,
Collect garbage from general receptacles including river front.
Essential Qualifications:
Attending University or College for studies in any field as a full-time student;
Working at Heights certification preferred;
Mechanical aptitude is an asset;
Some experience in the use of hand and power tools;
Grade 11 reading comprehension;
Ability to bend, stoop and climb;
Ability to work from ladders, lifts and scaffolding;
Successfully completed the enhanced criminal record check; and,
Ability to demonstrate and maintain language requirement (English Essential) is required.
