As a member of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team, the speech language pathologist provides evaluation, intervention, consultation, education and prevention to an adult population presenting with communication and swallowing disabilities as a result of impairments in language, cognitive-communication abilities, articulation, voice, fluency and/or oropharyngeal dysfunction, related to an acquired brain injury event(s). Supervision and teaching of Rehabilitation Therapists is an integral part of the position. Service delivery consists of a combination of consultative and direct treatment.
- Registered with CASLPO or eligible for registration
- Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology
- Current knowledge base and experience in the assessment and treatment of adults with neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders
- Previous experience working with acquired brain injury population within a rehabilitation setting preferred
- Experience with video-fluoroscopy swallowing studies an asset/preferred
- Skills and experience in the areas of augmentative and alternative communication preferred, or a willingness to actively develop these skills
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals with acquired brain injury and complex rehabilitation needs including cognitive, behavioural and mental health issues.
