Job Description
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Perform and record manufacturing activities consistent with those required to meet company objectives. Must be able to handle multiple concurrent tasks with fluctuating priorities. Sets up and operates CNC Milling or Turning machines to manufacture precision components. Familiar with operations like drilling, tapping, threading, turning, reaming, boring, facing and other machining operations performed on C.N.C. equipment. Able to modify or edit existing programs.
SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Set up, operate, and run CNC Mills and/or CNC Turning Centers
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions
Understand and apply GD&T, tolerances, product features, and dimensional requirements
Perform machine setups including tooling, offsets, and fixture alignment
Monitor machining processes and make necessary adjustments to ensure quality
Inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments
Maintain safe, clean, and organized work areas
Troubleshoot machining issues and optimize cycle times when required
Works from factory work orders, prints, sketches, and written or verbal instructions.
Notifies supervisor of shop and tooling requirements.
Operates C.N.C machines as assigned and may be required to operate more than one machine simultaneously.
Works to required tolerances and is responsible for quality of work produced.
Follows preventative maintenance procedures as outlined by machine manufacture or supervisors.
Required to assist in machine repair when needed.
Keeps machine and work area clean, lubricated and orderly.
Makes proper job and time reports for timekeeping and tracking.
Performs other duties as assigned utilizing normal skill and ability of the current position.
Remains aware and follows all health and safety practices. Works in a safe fashion and reports any concerns to supervisor.
Trains and assists other C.N.C set up Operators.
Utilizes knowledge of working properties for a wide variety of materials such as aluminum, brass, cast iron, alloy steels, plastics, etc.
Pre-sets tools and addresses tool off-sets prior to finishing cuts.
Uses measuring instruments such as micrometers, Vernier, calliper, etc. to verify conformance to specifications.
Works to required tolerances and is responsible for quality of work produced.
May be required to assist in machine repair.
EHS REQUIREMENTS:
Additional duties and responsibilities will vary based upon departmental needs.
Complete all work in a safe manner and follow all safety requirements consistent with supporting the Company’s goals.
Lifting guidelines in accordance with the Manual Lifting Guidelines noted in the Safety Handbook.
Follow all environmental requirements consistent with supporting the company’s environmental performance goals.
Complete, and actively participate in all other EHS training requirements.
Qualifications
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Training: High school education plus 2 years technical training
Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with CNC milling or turning operations
Ability to independently operate CNC milling or Turning machines.
Requires over 3 years of experience in related or subordinate work, plus 3-6 months on the job training
Proficient in reading blueprints and understanding tolerances and dimensions
Familiarity with G-code programming and CNC machine controls
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Experience with Mazak (Mill-Turn), Okuma, and Haas machines an asset.
CNC programming experience (at the machine or offline) an asset.
Experience in precision component manufacturing
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment is considered only within the Stoney Creek location on a 2-shift operation in a manufacturing plant.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory floor.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Competitive starting wage of $39.27/hour with increases after 3, 6, 9 and 12 months.
Shift premiums of an additional $1.25 hour on the afternoon shift
