The Department of Pathology and Oncology in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Prostate Cancer.
Job Description:
A urological research junior post-doctoral fellowship position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Tarek Bismar in the Departments of Pathology and Oncology, University of Calgary, Cumming
School of Medicine (Calgary, Alberta Canada).
Our laboratory focuses on identifying and characterizing novel biomarkers to differentiate aggressive and indolent phenotypes of prostate cancer. Our work combines an in vitro/in vivo approach with tissue-based biomarkers using immunohistochemistry, fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH), Q-PCR, RNA and DNA sequencing along with siRNA/gene over-expression and rescue experimental work. Additionally, we utilize various bioinromatics tools to assist in our analysis of high throughput data generated by sequencing and expression platforms.
This is a very active and busy laboratory with several collaborative projects. It is expected that the fellow will be very active, industrious and will engage in several collaborative and
independent research activities, as well as taking responsibility for the finalization of several manuscripts related to prostate cancer. The successful candidate is expected to be
able to work independently and have excellent urological and general pathology experience and be successful in obtaining outside funding. This is a post doctoral research program with
emphasis on prostate cancer research. Interaction with pathology residents and fellows is a key component of our lab and overall work experiments.
Qualifications:
- We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with recent PhD (within the last two years) with a strong research background in molecular biology and a proven track record of publications.
- Applicants with additional experience in bioinformatics analysis and data mining investigating transcriptomic and copy number as well as sequence data are encouraged to apply.
- Experience in biostatistical analysis would be an asset.
- The successful candidate should be knowledgeable in basic laboratory work with excellent experience in in-vitro work (cell invasion, proliferation, CRISPR, CHIP, CO-IP, miRNA and luciferace etc).
- Expertise in bioinformatics analysis and mining of sequencing /gene expression data is highlight desirable.
- Should possess excellent communication skills and be fluent in the English language and able to work independently and participate in supervision of graduate and undergraduate students.
- Preference will be given to Canadian permanent residents and Canadian citizens. Due to the nature of immediate start, candidates residing within Canada would be preferred.
