As Senior Legal Counsel in Pomerleau's litigation group you will play a pivotal role in the future success of one of Canada's largest construction companies. The successful candidate will manage a wide range of complex legal matters throughout common law Canada and the United States and will provide strategic legal advice in support of Pomerleau and its subsidiaries' operations.
What You Will Do
- Provide strategic legal advice to project teams and senior leadership in support of ongoing projects across Canada and the United States;
- Provide legal counsel on a wide range of construction-related disputes, contract negotiations, claims, procurement, insurance, environmental, labour, real estate, and other legal matters;
- Manage active disputes on the company's behalf including preparation of pleadings, conducting of examinations, and attendance at mediations, trials, and arbitral hearings;
- Advise on, and assist in the development of, risk management strategies and policies to minimize legal exposure;
- Oversee external counsel and coordinate legal proceedings to ensure effective representation;
- Prepare and lead internal legal training seminars; and
- Monitor legal developments and industry trends to provide proactive advice.
This role could be for you if you have
- Have 5 to 8 years of experience in private practice at a leading Canadian law firm, or as in-house counsel, with experience in commercial litigation and contract disputes;
- Must be able to obtain a Government of Canada Secret Level Clearance;
- Possess the ability to work under pressure, manage multiple files simultaneously, and perform tasks within tight timelines;
- Possess excellent legal reasoning, judgement, and the ability to apply these skills in a solution-focused problem-solving manner;
- Possess the ability to explain complex legal principles clearly and concisely in both verbal and written form;
- Possess excellent negotiation and advocacy skills;
- Are a collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively with both legal and non-legal professionals;
- Are open to business travel to various regions of Canada and the United States as required; and
- Hold an LL.B. or J.D. degree and are a member in good standing of the bar in in a Canadian common law jurisdiction.

The expected salary range for this opportunity is $128,000 - $170,000. Please note that salaries may vary depending on the candidate's experience and geographical location. Listed compensation is exclusive of bonus and in addition to our extensive employee benefits program which is listed above. Availability of certain benefits may vary based on the specific job role.
