About the Opportunity
- Function as a member of the team at the level of a PGY2 or PGY3
- Participate in a directed continuing professional development (CPD) program, focused on enhancing competencies related to the Hospitalist scope of practice
- Undergo CPSNS-directed supervision under a preceptorship model of skill development and assessment
- Make regular rounds with their Preceptor and liaise with nurses, attending staff, crisis workers and other members of the health care team in the development and management of the overall patient care plan
- Manage the day-to-day care of patients, including writing medical orders on charts and responding to emergencies, in consultation with the Preceptor and attending staff
- Manage new admissions, transfer of care opportunities and discharges
- Perform assessments and examinations within the scope of demonstrated competence and privileges and according to established policies and protocols
- Perform and document admission history, progress notes, discharge summaries, consultation notes, reports etc
- Communicate with patients, families, referring and family Physicians concerning patient management plans
- Arrange consultation with other departments for care and investigation and follow through on investigations and arrange follow-up and outpatient visits
- Attend educational sessions and rounds as time permits as well as monthly departmental meetings
- Participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of at least 50 hours per year
- Participate in on-call responsibilities of the service
About You

Must have postgraduate training and independent practice in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine

Must meet the requirements to obtain a Clinical Assistant License to act as an Associate Physician, from the College of Physicians and Surgeon of Nova Scotia (CPSNS) (

Good command of written and spoken English

Must be able to promote and maintain good interpersonal skills

Physical demand - Must be able to sit, stand, walk and perform duties as outlined above

Mental and Visual demand - High; must be able to deal with stressful situations

Competencies in other languages an asset

Ability to hold a valid work permit, permanent resident status or Canadian citizenship a must
Hours
- Permanent, full-time position, 96 hours bi-weekly
