Project Engineer - Env Services, Eng Supports
Reporting to the Manager of the Engineering Support Division, the purpose of the position is to administer engineering projects related to the areas of engineering studies, pilot projects and research, and the provision of technical advice in the matters related to the operation and design of regional water supply and sanitary sewerage systems.
The position is accountable for coordinating activity of junior engineers and students within Division, for engineering support in design and operation matters related to regional water and wastewater infrastructure, for development of terms of reference and project management for various water supply and sanitary sewerage projects and assignments.
Responsibilities
- Develop scope and provide project management for Capital and Operation water supply and sanitary sewerage projects
- Write requests for proposal in accordance with regional guidelines. Evaluate proposals, hire consultants, and assign projects
- Develop Capital Works budgeting forecast for water supply and sanitary sewerage services
- Act as the technical resource with regard to Region water and wastewater facilities forecast planning and complex operational and technical issues
- Manage technical support staff of junior project engineers, and students by assessing needs, reviewing, organizing, prioritizing, and assigning projects and technical tasks
- Develop and manage special engineering studies, research and pilot projects related to water supply and sanitary sewerage infrastructure conducted by consultants and/or in house staff
- Provide professional opinion and advice regarding water supply and sanitary sewerage servicing by stamping and signing letters, reports and documentation
- Strategically innovate and collaborate with others to achieve the on-going improvement of Regional and Divisional standards, guidelines, practices, procedures and policies
Qualifications
- University Degree in Civil, Environmental or Mechanical Engineering
- Licence as a Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineers of Ontario
- Extensive experience in the municipal engineering field specializing in water supply and sanitary sewerage projects
- Knowledge of the distribution, collection and treatment equipment for water supply and sanitary sewerage projects
- Experience in developing water and wastewater infrastructure engineering, research studies and pilot projects
- Experience supervising technical staff and consultants in an environmental engineering environment
- Broad public presentation experience
- Knowledge and understanding of the MECP water and wastewater design guidelines, of Procedure for Disinfection of Drinking Water in Ontario, Ontario Water Resource Act, Public Utilities Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Building Code, Ontario Occupational Health \& Safety Act
- Experience working with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication, problem solving, analytical, negotiation, conflict resolution and organizational skills
- A valid Class 'G' Drivers' License with the use of a reliable vehicle
Salary
Management \& Exempt Salary Grade 7 - Salary: $115,950 to $144,938 per annum
