Position Title: Associate Dean, Grants and Research Development
Status: FT Admin Contract (8 months)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Faculty/Department: Research \& Innovation
Campus/Location: North Campus, minimum 3days in office/week
Salary: $139,301.25 annually

About the Associate Dean, Grants and Research Development Role:
Under the direction of the Dean, Research \& Innovation, the Associate Dean, Grants and Research Development will support researchers in the development and submission of grant applications for a variety of funding opportunities including individual operating funds, large strategic team grants, major infrastructure, or multi-center network grants, which encompass both Tri-Council and external foundation grants. The incumbent will provide cross institution leadership in advancing and advocating for activities related to research, accountable for the leadership, initiation, operational excellence and coordination of the funding strategies and portfolio for Humber.
The incumbent will participate in the management of multiple external and internal grant deadlines, while maintaining a strong understanding of granting agency research policies. The incumbent is responsible for fostering an applied research culture, planning, organizing, staffing and delivering the institutions applied research activities including developing appropriate research policies and procedures, establishing and managing research support services and staff, assisting in the development of academic schools research plans, encouraging scholarly activities, and supporting student-based research projects. The incumbent will manage and lead a team, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful development and submission of grant applications.
- Collaborates with academic leadership and COI Directors to identify research opportunities that enhance Humber's national research positioning, elevate student learning excellence and enhance Humber's reputation, aligning with Humber's strategic vision.
- Provides leadership in negotiating and securing applied research grants, in collaboration with the academic divisions, and provides leadership, guidance and advice to the divisions on a variety of funding opportunities.
- Supports the development of research plans pertaining to specific Faculty and COIs.
- Promotes Humber and its strategic and business plans through high-quality research, to further the job-readiness of students.
- Identifies the return on investment and/or rate of impact (ROI) on all grant application pipeline.
- Develops and implements a comprehensive grant writing strategy to increase external funding.
- Leads the development of large-scale, competitive grant proposals that involve both academic and industry partners, showcasing the mutual partnership benefits.
- Establishes and tracks measurable goals related to successful grants, assessing performance, and adjusting strategies to ensure consistent grant funding objectives are met.
- Ensures that all funding -- internal and external -- is leveraged to ensure that the funds are used to achieve applied research goals of enhancing student experience, developing faculty, enhancing Humber reputation as a world class research institution.
- Serves as the institutional expert on Tri-Council policies, guidelines, and funding requirements
- Works with other colleges, universities, research institutes and research consortia to remain current on best practices and trends, and to identify opportunities for partnership or collaboration.
- Participates in Tri-Council consultations, committees, and policy discussions, providing institutional input on emerging research funding trends.
- Fosters relationships with external stakeholders, funding agencies, and government bodies to enhance research funding opportunities and institutional positioning.
- Provides strategic leadership to staff through recruitment, mentoring, performance management, and professional development, ensuring team alignment with institutional goals and fostering a high-performing, growth-oriented workplace culture.

Education
Masters Degree in related field
Experience/Skills
- Five years' experience in grant administration with a proven research track record (written and awarded research grants - Tri-Council and/or foundations).
- Exemplary skills in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
- Published in peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience in training and development and coaching as well as change management.
- Knowledge of and experience in administration, management, budgeting, human resource development, conflict resolution and meeting management.
- Research methodology knowledge and experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of legal and ethical requirements in the research field.
- Computer literacy skills for administrative purposes.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills including public speaking.
- Proficient in project development and project management; knowledgeable about research funding sources
- Excellent listening skills, conflict resolution, negotiation skills.
- Consensus-building skills; ability to promote excellent working relationships with both academic and non-academic staff.
- Effective in working with individuals and groups from the post-secondary system, government, and the private sector
- Personally demonstrated leadership and success in applied research.
- Excellent facilitation, human relations and communication skills (both oral and written).
- Knowledge of the post-secondary community and administrative infrastructure.
- Understanding of academic research principles and processes.
