Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the Senior Policy Planner in conducting thorough and detailed reviews of the Zoning By-laws
- Research, analyze and interpret provincial policies, municipal by-laws and planning legislation to ensure alignment with community needs and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with municipal stakeholders, staff, and external consultants to gather input and feedback related to the Zoning By-law reviews
- Prepare reports, presentations and other communication materials to inform and engage stakeholders and their Councils
- Support public engagement initiatives, including organizing meetings, workshops, and consultations, to promote transparency and community involvement in the planning process
- Monitor zoning and land use trends, identify emerging challenges and propose innovative solutions
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Land Use Planning, Geography or related field
- Registered Professional Planner with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and full Canadian Institute of Planning membership or candidate member is preferred
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a planning role
- Proficient understanding of the Planning Act, Provincial Planning Statement, Official Plans, Zoning By-laws and related legislation and regulations
- Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Ability to work efficiently within a team environment and independently
- Critical thinking and strategic planning skills
- Excellent communication skills, including negotiation, collaboration, policy writing, report writing and presentation skills
- Proficiency in multiple computer software applications including Microsoft Office Suite and GIS viewing software
- Valid Ontario driver's license and the ability to travel as required
