We are looking for a talented Intermediate Financial Analyst to join our busy Finance team. This role reports to the Manager, Financial Reporting and would support the Financial Reporting team.
This role is primarily remote, with occasional in-office meetings in our downtown Toronto office.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare quarterly and annual financial close processes relating to the accounting for insurance and reinsurance contracts, and associated financial statement disclosures
- Assist in the preparation of external quarterly consolidated IFRS financial statements
- Prepare or review monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations for various GL accounts. Identify imbalances and pursue resolution with line of business teams
- Ensure the accurate and timely recording of period end journal entries in support of the financial close process.
- Research, recommend and implement solutions to improve the effectiveness of internal controls within the area
- Research, recommend and implement solutions for complex new and existing transactional accounting issues and disclosure requirements
- Prepare reports and complete surveys for internal and external stakeholders
- Prepare financial information and reports for regulatory filings
- Work with other Finance team members to continuously improve and automate team processes and templates.
- Participate in projects and initiatives as assigned.
- Provide back up to the team and support other business units as required.
- Support external and internal auditors requests
Qualifications:
- Completion of a Bachelor degree from top Canadian university is required
- CPA designation or equivalent is required (someone who has passed the CFE and just needs hours experience are also encouraged to apply).
- Experience preparing the financial statements under IFRS.
- Experience with Power BI
- Financial services or insurance industry experience is preferred.
- 3+ years accounting experience.
- Experience working with a General Ledger system is required.
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently; prioritizing and balancing multiple tasks.
- Ability to think logically, analyze and solve problems.
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and to collaborate and build relationships.
- Experience in the financial services/insurance industry preferred.
- Microsoft Excel competency (Intermediate to Advanced).
- Strong proficiency in IFRS.
