The Tanenbaum Centre for Pharmacogenetics Research Program is seeking applications for a full-time, contract (6 months) Research Assistant 1. The incumbent will join a productive team in one of the world's leading centres in Pharmacogenetics. In addition to Pharmacogenetics research, the team also specializes in the use of mitochondrial genetics to understand risk and symptomatology of psychiatric disorders.
Reporting to the Research Manager, the Research Assistant 1 will primarily support the large study of mitochondrial DNA variants in eating disorders. You will be primarily responsible for: genotyping array and next generation sequencing data cleaning and statistical analysis, writing reports and manuscripts. You will provide regular updates to the Manager and other duties will include the provision of administrative support to the team. The candidate must be able to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment. You will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.
This position is located primarily at 250 College Street.
The successful candidate will have completed Grade 12 and/or special courses. The successful candidate will be detail oriented with demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to produce high quality and accurate work while meeting program deadlines and requirements. Candidates will work with statistical genetics using analytical tools such as PLINK, R (and Bioconductor), and bash scripting. In the lab, the Research Assistant will work with techniques such as PCR, DNA extraction, and real-time PCR. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates require the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
