Major Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide workplace learning performance advice and expertise in scoping, planning and creating learning strategies that balance client goals, business needs and technology considerations by:
- establishing and maintaining relationships with clients, business partners and business subject matter experts across the organization and/or external vendors, articulating technical concepts in plain language
- advising on the selection of most appropriate type of learning modality, media, methods and delivery channels to deliver learning and assess and test learner performance and proficiency
- maintaining linkages with workplace learning and performance industry to stay current in instructional design and development, learning technologies, workplace learning and performance improvement trends, research and best practices
- providing workplace learning and performance advice, direction and leadership to the WSIB on learning best practices in continuous learning (i.e., education, experience, exposure and the environment), learning experience design and development and technical writing
- contributing to learning design and development standards, style guides, templates, etc., and processes including timelines and milestones to inform project plans, work breakdown schedules and reports, adhering to project management best practices
- leading the execution of deliverables to ensure timelines are met, including tracking and reporting.
- Apply a design thinking approach to perform learning needs analysis and technology needs assessment by:
- conducting client meetings, focus groups, interviews, surveys, observations, etc., to get perspective and refine understanding of the problem/performance gap to create empathy maps, learner personas, stakeholder analyses and experience maps
- writing performance-based learning objectives that close performance gaps
- working with subject matter experts to obtain content and translate their knowledge into effective learning products and experiences
- acting as a content curator to gather existing knowledge and learning content, and organizing and updating relevant learning artefacts, assessing and customizing existing internal and external, off-the-shelf learning products or resources for instructional design efficacy and user experience.
- Design and develop performance-based, cohesive end-to-end learning experiences (i.e., learning journeys, programs, curricula, courses, etc., ) for the moments that matter in training and in the flow of work by writing experience design documents that outline the learning experience, evaluation plan, technical learning architecture and functional design clearly and concisely.
- Design and develop new and/or modify existing performance-based learning products and experiences using a variety of media, modalities and methods including virtual and in-person instructor-led training and workshops, social learning networks, self-paced learning and eLearning, practice activities, podcasts, videos, simulations, role-plays, mobile applications, games, learner portals, etc., that engage and inspire audiences by:
- using an array of authoring tools including Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Suite (i.e., Photoshop, Illustrator, Audition, Premiere Pro, etc.,) Camtasia, Microsoft 365, etc., and delivery channels including learner portals, libraries and repositories such as websites, SharePoint, Learning Management System, etc.
- writing design proposals, storyboards, and audio/video scripts for learner and facilitator materials, and creating facilitator guides and presentation slide decks with speaker notes, and performance support tools (e.g., observation checklists; learner, mentor and manager guides; etc.)
- prototyping designs, coordinating user experience testing, and iterating designs based on feedback and findings leveraging rapid, agile development techniques
- creating, acquiring or selecting appropriate audio-visual elements (e.g., graphics, images, animations, infographics, graphs, interactive charts, audio and video files, etc.,) to support learning content consistent with learning and brand standards
- performing detailed quality assurance (QA) on own work and the work of others to ensure deliverables meet requirements and standards
- using SCORM or xAPI compliant coding that will function in the LMS or other learning, collaboration or knowledge management systems. Evaluate learning products and experiences by:
- designing and creating measurement and evaluation plans and methods (e.g., surveys, assessments, knowledge checks, quizzes and tests, performance tests and observations, etc.) to measure the effectiveness of learning experiences, learner achievement of performance-based learning objectives, and learner proficiency
- collaborating with peers in the development, administration and collection of post learning results to evaluate reaction, learning and transfer of learning
- piloting learning solutions, analyzing results, making recommendations to management regarding the attainment of learning, performance and business objectives, determining and completing appropriate revisions.
- Support the implementation of learning solutions by:
- designing and facilitating train-the-trainer sessions for clients in collaboration with colleagues
- planning for the implementation and/or roll-out of learning solutions (e.g., implementation plans, hand-off of learning products to others for delivery, etc.)
- publishing learning content to learning portals and libraries, LMS and other repositories following file naming conventions and content management standards
- assisting facilitators, learners and the client in the delivery of learning experiences, including troubleshooting learning technologies and technical issues.
- Coordinate the maintenance of learning programs, projects or initiatives to ensure content is current and accurate and aligned to business processes, plans and desired outcomes by:
- working closely with managers and subject matter experts to obtain new content and make continuous improvements
- scoping and executing content updates in collaboration with colleagues, keeping others abreast of changes to content and maintaining instructional design efficacy
- tracking changes, updates and edits to content and reporting completion.
- Champion an inclusive design approach in all stages of learning experience design to create products and experiences that are inclusive and accessible, enabling people of all backgrounds and abilities by:
- identifying and mitigating issues, risks and concerns in collaboration with design team members and stakeholders
- performing and coordinating user experience testing using assistive software (e.g., Dragon, Jaws and Zoom text, etc.) adhering to AODA and web accessibility standards and guidelines (e.g., writing alt texts, setting reading order and using accessibility verification tools, etc.)
- Act as a change agent for the design thinking and continuous learning model and all WSIB change initiatives by assisting WSIB staff in accepting, adapting to, and assimilating organizational or legislative changes affecting work methods, activities and processes through high quality learning experience design.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Job Requirements
- University completion at undergraduate level with specialization in education, adult education or instructional design or university completion at undergraduate level with a diploma or certificate in workplace learning/adult education, instructional design, eLearning development, graphic design or user experience design
Experience
- Five years prior experience in instructional design and/or learning experience design and/or learning development and/or design thinking and learning management systems
