Director of Operations
Job Summary:
The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations, strategic planning, workforce planning and financial management for Canadian Metabolic Clinics. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered outcomes for clients while optimizing operational efficiency, compliance, and financial sustainability as we expand to a national platform. The director collaborates with the multidisciplinary staff including the physicians, clinic managers, and external partners to improve patient outcomes and expand access to obesity and bariatric health care.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations:
● Oversee the daily operations of the clinic, ensuring efficient workflows and high-quality patient care and managing any operational deficiencies or issues.
● Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance clinic performance and compliance.
● Support new clinic acquisitions through operational road map and opening the clinic along with the lead Medical Director.
● Work with Clinic Managers to optimize patient scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation to meet demand for services from each key customer/stakeholder.
● Ensure adherence to regulatory and privacy laws with respect to patient care and adhere to accreditation standards.
Financial \& Business Management:
● Develop clinic budgets, financial forecasts, and cost-control measures with Directors, implement, evaluate and provide updates. This includes management of clinic capacity and optimizations where possible.
● Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including patient referrals, scheduling, doctor days.
● Oversee billing (AHS billings), insurance claims, and reimbursement processes.
● Identify opportunities to expand obesity \& bariatric programs and revenue-generating services including BD opportunities with new partners within the community.
● Ensure clinical outcomes are appropriately reported to stakeholders as required.
Human Resources and Leadership:
● Oversee, lead, mentor, recruit and support a multidisciplinary team, including HR Manager, nurses, medical office assistants and physicians.
● Ensure staff training, credentials, and professional development align with best practices.
● Foster a collaborative, trauma-informed, and inclusive workplace culture.
● Implement performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and support.
● Create peer group support structure and feedback mechanisms for employees for continuous improvement and retention strategies.
Client / Patient experience
● Ensure a safe, compassionate, and patient-centered environment for individuals seeking care services.
● Implement initiatives to improve patient access, engagement, and satisfaction.
● Monitor clinical outcomes and support quality improvement programs focused on bariatric \& obesity health care effectiveness.
● Oversee patient safety protocols and risk management initiatives.
Strategic growth \& planning:
● Identify opportunities for clinic expansion, partnerships, and service enhancements.
● Develop strategies to increase access to care and community outreach.
● Stay informed on trends in obesity health treatment, policy changes, and innovative care models.
● Collaborate with community organizations, insurance providers, and government agencies to enhance obesity \& bariatric health care.
● Have a pulse on local market competitors and changes
Requirements:
● Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, or a related field.
● Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years of leadership experience in a clinic or healthcare setting.
● Knowledge:
○ Strong understanding of health care delivery, including medical management, sports medicine, nutrition, and behavioural medicine.
○ Familiarity with healthcare EMR.
○ Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR).
● Skills:
○ Strong leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
○ Ability to work collaboratively with health professionals and external stakeholders.
○ Financial and operational acumen with experience managing budgets and performance metrics.
