The Art Gallery of Ontario, located in Toronto, is one of the largest art museums in North America, attracting approximately one million visitors annually. The AGO Collection comprises over 120,000 works, including contemporary art, Indigenous and Canadian art, and European masterpieces.
We are currently seeking a Housekeeping Coordinator to join our Facility Services team. Under the direction of the Deputy Director, Facility Services, the incumbent will coordinate and monitor the daily work of cleaning staff, ensuring that daily assignments meet AGO standards as outlined by the department manager.
The rate of pay for this position is $27.38 - $34.20 per hour
Responsibilities
- Supervise cleaning staff: Evaluate daily cleaning requirements, prioritize tasks, reassign as needed, and serve as a Maintenance Worker I when necessary to meet deadlines.
- Coordinate with departments: Consult with banquet managers and programming staff to address last-minute changes, identify immediate needs, and resolve conflicting demands.
- Conduct inspections: Regularly inspect public and back-of-house spaces to ensure readiness and proper setup; report and coordinate repairs for damaged equipment or finishes.
- Train staff: Assist in training staff on proper procedures and policies.
- Monitor supplies and equipment: Oversee inventory levels, report needs, and address other issues with the departmental assistant.
- Perform other duties: Undertake additional tasks and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience
- Availability to work weekends and/or nights
- Hands-on experience with cleaning and maintenance in large facilities
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Proven leadership and team motivation abilities
- Good judgment and decision-making skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Knowledge of cleaning procedures, equipment, and products
- Understanding of WHMIS and safe chemical handling
- Comfort working at heights and operating lifting equipment
- Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act
