THE ROLE:
As Legal Assistant/Law Clerk, you will report to the Senior Director, Senior Legal Counsel, and will be assisting with corporate and litigation file management support under the supervision of the company's lawyers.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- You will provide litigation file management support on matters related to bankruptcy and insolvency, construction, environmental, insured claims management and leasing disputes.
- Assist with calendar management and coordinating meetings with internal and external parties.
- Communicate with external counsel to track quarterly legal costs and file status.
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly litigation reports.
- Management of day-to-day insurance matters, including correspondence with broker, tracking of claims, maintenance of records, reviewing/revising Certificates of Insurance.
- Assist with evidence collection and document production.
- Conduct lease analysis and prepare summaries to assist in responding to potential claims.
- Assist with drafting and responding to quarterly auditor legal confirmation letters.
- Process and code all legal invoices.
- Other responsibilities, including providing administrative support for special projects, as required.
WHAT YOU BRING:
- Undergraduate degree with 3-5 years of experience in-house legal department/law firm.
- Legal Assistant/Law Clerk education or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in corporate law and commercial litigation as an asset.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Pragmatic approach to problem solving and analytical review.
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
