Are you ready to take on an exciting challenge? We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director to oversee geotechnical engineering activities within the civil division of the Project Management Office. Candidates may be based in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, or Quebec City.
The role
The Director, Geotechnical Engineering plays a crucial role in planning, designing, and constructing civil infrastructures for the Alto project. They oversee all geotechnical aspects related to these facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in geotechnical engineering, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record of managing successful projects.
The Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and strategic direction for geotechnical activities, including timelines, budgets, and resource management.
- Support and guide the Private Development Partner on geotechnical issues.
- Manage geotechnical investigations, site characterization, soil testing, and geological mapping to assess ground conditions.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for foundation design, slope stability, and ground improvement.
- Review geotechnical designs to ensure compliance with standards and safety requirements.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and interface coordinators to integrate geotechnical considerations.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards related to geotechnical engineering, safety, and environmental protection.
- Manage budgets and schedules for geotechnical activities, including resource allocation and progress monitoring.
- Provide expertise on soil mechanics, foundation design, and ground stability.
- Implement quality assurance measures for investigations, designs, and construction activities.
- Engage with government agencies, stakeholders, and external partners to address geotechnical concerns and foster positive relationships.
The Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's preferred).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent; membership in Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec is a plus.
- Minimum 10 years of civil engineering experience, especially in linear project construction like high-speed railways.
- Proven leadership in large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles, design software, and construction methods.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in both Canadian official languages is desirable.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a focus on innovation.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations, standards, and environmental considerations.
