Diagnose common causes of malfunction when such causes have not already been identified, and perform mechanical work in accordance with the rules of the trade, including repairing equipment and returning it to good working order. Work is done under general supervision, and directives are given to the employee verbally or in writing. Job requirements:Candidates must have a vocational certificate and a valid mechanic's card issued by a recognized certifying authority. A few years of relevant experience as a mechanic as well as a Class 1 driver's licence are also required. Sound knowledge of:
- spoken French and English, and written French;
- the techniques, practices and tools of the trade;
- how motorized equipment is constructed and how it functions;
- the proper functioning of dashboard instruments and various accessory mechanisms;
- all types of metals and alloys, and their properties;
- how to operate the motor and power equipment being used, and what its capacity and limitations are.
Ability to:
- diagnose the causes of malfunction;
- use the right tools for the job;
- read diagrams;
- consult parts catalogues, understand maintenance manuals and, when needed, write up requests for supplies or equipment;
- operate the motor and power equipment being used.
