A Labourer 2 (L2) in Infrastructure Maintenance and Operations/ Snow and Ice Control is a semi-skilled manual labour position, tasks of this nature involve the use of some acquired skills. Duties include the ability to use a variety of hand and power tools as well as operate motor vehicles and other equipment, to complete all
tasks assigned by the supervisor in an effective and efficient manner. With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:
What will you do?
- Travel to various job sites and participate in on-site hazard assessments
- Maintain park trails and shared use paths walking trails
- Shovel and chip ice from sidewalks and manually sand icy areas
- Use equipment such as, but not limited to BCS brooms and small John Deere tractors to remove snow and debris from hard surfaces
- Clean and sweep debris from boulevards and hard surfaces manually, with hand tools or small equipment as required
- Assist litter crews in refuse collection
- Assist asphalt crew with the placement of asphaltic material (cold mix - hot mix)
- Set up equipment and traffic control as directed
- Disassemble or remove damaged or deteriorated assets
- Assist the asphalt crew with the placement of asphaltic materials
- Operate various equipment, including rollers and trucks
- Perform manual labor, such as shoveling and raking
- Ensure work areas are kept clean and tidy
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members
- Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures
Qualifications :
- Completion of the tenth (10th) school grade
- Knowledge of safe operation and maintenance of equipment
Assets:
- Emergency First Aid Certificate

Conditions of Employment:
- Must be able to work shift work, including night shifts
- Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator, and compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement of this position
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel toed boots, is a requirement for this position
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Work Environment:
- You will be working outdoors in all types of weather conditions, exposed to elements such as extreme temperatures, rain, snow, and dust. The work can be physically demanding, involving lifting, bending, and carrying heavy objects. You will be part of a dynamic team and will have the opportunity to contribute to the essential infrastructure of our city
