Director, Food Safety and Quality Assurance is responsible for the overall Food Safety programs across all Brands. You are responsible for designing, implementing and measuring a proactive comprehensive strategic food safety and quality assurance program that reaches all aspects of food and beverage handling and restaurant cleanliness that supports Recipe's overall strategic plan. Through effective leadership, programs, tools, training and coaching you will lead the department and essentially all activity related to restaurant level food handling, cooking, storage, cleanliness, pest control, Food Claims verification, internal and external QA/Health audits. You will also be responsible for vendor participation and auditing, leading any 3rd party audit company and liaison with public and government officials to ensure compliance of all applicable legislation. You will work with all Brand leaders to set policy, procedures, reporting and evaluation systems and training programs that support the initiatives.
What you will do in this role:
- Set Policy, procedures, reporting and evaluation systems in place that support the company's strategic plan as related to Food Safety at Recipe
- Design, implement, train and lead the overall HACCP program to ensure practical usage and legal compliance
- Communicate appropriate Food safety certification programs to meet legislation and company goals
- Lead the Pest Control program for all brands
- Ensure a structured and effective Cleanliness program exists within the brands to ensure compliance and food safety
- Liaison with Brand Leads to ensure all training and training tools at store level are effective, in place and meet company goals and legislation, including brand leader training for existing and new leadership
- Create and maintain a scheduled Supplier/Vendor program to ensure site audits, approved vendors of food that comes in, supplier compliance/approval
- Manage our 3rd party auditing process/company and manage program to include evaluation, auditing process, follow up, legislation, communication and training, consistency and fairness in the program
- Work with the Brand leads to facilitate full adherence to clearly communicated company goals and practices, get alignment on best practices, evaluation and consequences
- Lead both proactive and reactive solutions to the Food Quality programs
- Regularly evaluate and report on progress, issues, barriers, successes and recommendations using approved evaluation metrics, systems and documents
- Liaison with government officials to address any Public Health issues, proactively adjust our program to ensure compliance with all legislation, and be the point person by developing relationships with government officials
- Implement a Suspect Food Borne Illness process and program and communicate procedures for restaurant level and above to follow, including Sourcing, Restaurant Managers, QA Department, and Legal as needed
- Lead Crisis Management situations related to food recalls, communicable diseases, Health Department, public relations together with other Recipe officials and representatives
- Be knowledgeable of all Industry issues and up to date with legislation, training, best practices and implement that knowledge in Recipe Food Safety Program
What we are looking for from you:
- Minimum Masters in Food Science
- Related Technical experience
- 5-10 years of experience, progressive, food science, public health, related field, food production, quality control, auditing testing
- Restaurant experience
- Regulatory knowledge
- Strong Communication skills including written, oral, presentation, influencing at all levels (restaurant, executive, publicly etc)
- Strong Analytical skills
- Credibility in the field and with experts
- Ability to create positive relationships amongst stakeholders with various backgrounds
- Strong planning, and reporting skills, including excel/power point
- A Self-directed leader
- Successful experience with leading a department or group with positive results
- A passion for food safety
- Strong and related practical knowledge
- HACCP knowledge
- Valid driver's license
