Position Overview
- Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests, taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary.
- Cleans exam rooms, obtains lab specimens, assists physicians and staff as needed, selects appropriate equipment, and verifies specimen orders.
- Prepares exam rooms for patient encounters, maintains supplies and forms, and keeps statistics as assigned.
- Performs clerical duties including patient registration, answering phones, scheduling, maintaining medical records, and distributing reports.
- Performs electrocardiograms and point of care testing, verifies patient information, and records medical history.
- Documents medical information in electronic records, organizes paperwork, and maintains room organization.
- Coordinates with front office and staff, assisting with check-out, discharge, referrals, education, and insurance processes.
- Performs other clinical and clerical duties to support primary health care delivery, under provider and manager supervision.
- Cross-trains to perform Patient Reception duties as needed.
- Uploads notarized access requests for NJ Prescription Monitoring Program and performs monitoring under supervision.
- Performs injections in accordance with policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including coverage across different practice locations.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; graduation from an accredited medical assisting program with at least 330 hours of instruction, including injection training.
- Current certification from recognized certifying bodies or registration, maintained throughout employment.
- Experience: None required.
- Other Credentials: AHA BLS; non-licensed must obtain before end of orientation.
- Knowledge and Skills: Problem-solving, insurance knowledge, medical terminology, effective communication, computer skills, and record management.
- Behavioral: Cooperative, flexible, multi-tasking, calm under stress, punctual.
- Work Hours: 8 hours per day.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Frequent: Standing, walking, reaching, wrist movements, fine motor activities.
- Occasional: Sitting, climbing, pushing/pulling, twisting, bending, overhead reaching, squatting, tasting, smelling.
- Continuous: Carrying objects, keyboard use, talking, hearing.
- Lifting: Up to 40 lbs floor to waist, 40 lbs waist level and above.
- Sensory: Visual acuity, color discrimination, depth perception, hearing.
- Exposure Risks: Bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, airborne diseases, dust.
