We are looking for Landscape Technicians to join our Development Services team and help us achieve this vision. As a Landscape Technician I, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that development projects comply with the City's landscaping regulations. This is a seasonal position that offers the opportunity to work outdoors and make a real difference in the community.
Landscape Technicians I are responsible for inspecting commercial, industrial, and residential sites to ensure that development, landscaping, and lot grading have been constructed according to approved plans, permits, and the Zoning Bylaw. They also review development, landscaping, and lot grading plans, research property histories, and manage inspection information. In addition, Landscape Technicians I provide customer service to stakeholders, answering questions and providing information about zoning and drainage application procedures.
What will you do?
- Inspect commercial, industrial, and residential sites to ensure compliance with landscaping and lot grading regulations
- Review development and landscaping plans
- Research property histories
- Manage and preserve inspection information
- Provide customer service to stakeholders
- Completion of a two (2) year diploma with arboricultural emphasis such as landscaping technology, architectural technology, planning, horticulture or similar fields
OR
- Journeyman Landscape Horticulturist and two years of experience in landscape construction
Assets:
- Experience working with the City of Edmonton's Zoning Bylaw
- Experience using the City of Edmonton's POSSE, SLIM, and Pictometry systems
Skills required for success:
- Ability to interpret guidelines and regulatory documents that govern the business activities of the area such as the Zoning Bylaw
- Proven ability in interpreting landscape plans, drawings and specifications
- Detailed knowledge of plant identification with the ability to select plants for specific applications
- Demonstrated ability to conduct inspections, gather evidence, and further identify the nature and severity of deficiencies on a site as compared to supplied technical drawings, development plans, standard operating procedures, or Zoning Bylaw provisions
- Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking, ethical judgement, discretion, professionalism, and diplomacy when working through inspections files
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently and with a high degree of accuracy without additional support/review/proofreading
- Ability to prioritize competing tasks and complete work on time
- Attention to detail with the ability to verify and assess documentation
- Demonstrated ability to actively listen and communicate inclusively and respectfully
- Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills - with the ability to manage and resolve confrontational situations and deal effectively with sensitive issues
- Ability to build positive relationships with development industry stakeholders (consultants, developers, contractors and other internal City of Edmonton staff) and strong partnerships with team members and customers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including technical writing
- Demonstrated computer skills include: Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets, Microsoft Powerpoint/Google Slides, POSSE, SLIM, and Pictometry.
- Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position. There may be a cost associated with this requirement
- A valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent) is a requirement of this position
- You will be required to arrange your own transportation for use while on City business. Where appropriate, you will be reimbursed for expenses related to that travel in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. You will be required to obtain business auto insurance
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel toed boots, is a requirement for this position
- This role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions. Work may be dependent on weather conditions
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week
Salary Range: $32.424 - $40.727 Hourly $67,701.31 - $85,037.12 Annually
