Position Summary:
Responsible for serving as a business partner to supervisors, department managers, and the General Manager for the Vancouver unit.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Senior HR Manager in providing information, advice, and guidance to managers and employees on HR-related issues such as recruitment, compensation, benefits, leave, and HR policies; refer complex issues to the Senior HR Manager
- Open, track, log, and close grievance case files, including HRTO complaints
- Partner with management to understand business objectives, identify HR needs, and implement strategies to support employee retention
- Maintain positive relationships with managers, employees, and union representatives
- Collaborate with operations and training to identify training needs and develop training content
- Support recruitment efforts for union hourly and salaried positions, including resume screening, phone interviews, and scheduling
- Create and organize employee files in accordance with legal and company standards
- Manage employee benefit and pension enrollments and updates
- Record new unionized hourly hires in HRIS (Workday)
- Serve as the initial contact for employee and labor relations issues, mediating disputes and grievances
- Assist with investigations, draft discipline letters, and provide recommendations
- Deliver orientation and training programs as needed
- Handle employment claims from government or public agencies in consultation with senior management
- Prepare documentation and correspondence related to union leaves and maintain file accuracy
- Maintain bulletin boards, trackers, and union seniority lists
- Keep payroll records and distribute ROEs and forms
- Ensure accurate data entry, audits, and report generation for record compliance
- Perform general administrative tasks
Education:
- Bachelor's degree required.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Human Resources or related field
- Minimum of 3 years HR, recruitment, and payroll experience in a medium-sized organization
- Experience in transportation, hospitality, manufacturing, or food service is highly desirable
- CHRP designation is a strong asset
- PCP designation is an asset
- Knowledge of payroll processing, compliance standards
- Experience with Kronos and Workday preferred
Job Skills:
- Knowledge of employment law
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Skilled in creating Excel spreadsheets and pivot tables
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Experience in a unionized environment and understanding of collective bargaining agreements
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Ability to work independently
- Effective relationship-building and business partnering skills
