WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a Legal Counsel to join our Legal team on a 13-month contractual basis, ending June 30th, 2026 . This position will be based out of our Fraser Head Office, in Liberty Village and offers candidates a hybrid work scheduled.
WHAT YOU'D BE DOING IN THIS ROLE
- Review, prepare and negotiate contracts and other commercial and transactional documents, including those relating to customers, suppliers, distributors, retailers, landlords, vendors, product liability, intellectual property, employment, recruitment, litigation, regulatory compliance and plant operations.
- Offer counsel on a variety of global legal issues.
- Provide strategic legal advice to senior leadership team within the Company and work alongside employees in the Company's departments.
- Keep abreast of global legislative changes that may affect the Company.
- Perform pre-litigation work to minimize risks and maximize legal rights.
- Provide high quality timely, strategic and prioritized corporate and commercial legal advice and support on a broad range of corporate, operational and complex contractual issues.
- Manage relationships and oversee work with external legal counsel, including monitoring and managing litigation and other specialized subject matters.
- Respond to inquiries with respect to interpretation of legislation and regulations affecting the Company.
- Assist in the development of precedents, legal policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Under the administrative direction of the Chief Operating Officer, represent and advise the Company in all legal matters pertaining to the daily operations of the Company. Ensure that all activities of the Company are legally supportable and carried out in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and rules.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED TO GET THE JOB DONE
- 3 years work experience in either private practice or in-house in corporate and commercial law.
- JD/LLB from an accredited law school.
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Strong drafting skills and contract interpretation skills.
- Experience with supporting/leading business negotiations.
