The Aviva Business unit has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Auto Underwriting Specialist within the Commercial Auto team. You will be responsible for the shared development and execution of the commercial auto line of business strategy in Alberta to aid in improving product and performance, by providing a higher level of understanding and technical underwriting expertise, guidance and support in all areas of commercial automobile in Canada. You will collaborate with other underwriting branches and all other key stakeholders to deliver improvement projects that have clear, positive and direct impact on portfolio and segment performance in alignment with the Commercial Underwriting strategy. You will challenge the status quo methods, practices, and procedures to drive towards continuous improvement within Commercial Insurance. You bring a positive attitude and you are a creative self-starter with the ability to work independently or as part of a team. You possess strong technical underwriting expertise and leadership, with experience in both Ontario auto and all other Canadian jurisdictions. Accountabilities : Contribute towards the effective management of more than half a billion in GWP National Commercial Auto portfolio spread across Ontario, Western, Atlantic, Quebec & Global Corporate & Specialty areas, with the objective of delivering consistent disciplined growth and profitable performance in alignment with financial plans Acting as a subject matter expert, responsibilities include driving the development of underwriting guidelines and eligibility rules/criteria in support of product compliance as well as alignment to and delivery of the line of business strategy Drive the development and implementation of innovative tools/products and product enhancements across all Canadian jurisdictions including maintaining relationships with provincial regulators Provide leadership and underwriting support to all branches across the country via coaching and mentoring of staff including clarification of coverage, endorsements, wordings, and providing solution oriented responses to customer referrals Identify auto training needs, support development, design and delivery of training, including technical guidance to colleagues regarding products, systems, and processes. Develop and deliver related training in support of key project launches and QA insights Work closely with Pricing and IT partners for system enhancements and development of all underwriter tools and strategies, including review and sign-off on systems requirements and functional specifications to ensure they reflect the business needs Participate in the management of the portfolio by regular monitoring of KPIs, analyzing the data and developing action plans to remedy existing trends or as they emerge Develop and embed portfolio controls by working with Risk to establish controls for existing risks and mitigate emerging or potential risks Working in collaboration with Loss Control to align objectives to underwriting strategy, driving the importance of loss control within the underwriting community and providing input to loss control methodology. Required Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills: Post-secondary education or equivalent combination of education and experience (Business or related discipline) CIP designation required; CRM or FCIP designation an asset A minimum of 10 years of Commercial Auto (IRCA, Fleet, Garage) underwriting experience 3-5 years’ similar Head Office/National Commercial Underwriting experience or involvement with Head Office initiatives is strongly preferred Demonstrated proficiency at managing multiple and changing priorities/projects, and delivering results Solid leadership skills, ability to influence and negotiate to optimum outcomes with respect to role accountabilities outlined above Ability to prioritize workload based on key strategic initiatives Able to work with a long-term perspective in addressing business area problems/issues Ability to focus on branch and regional needs, ensuring a high quality of service is provided Demonstrated verbal and written communication and presentation skills Ability to foster and build good working relationships with all business areas across Aviva Demonstrated proficiency and resourcefulness in identifying and analyzing relevant data and defining critical issues and alternatives Working knowledge of Aviva underwriting philosophy, policy contracts, rating programs, risk information sources, underwriting/technical manual information, and computer workflow procedures Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; RTM, Case Manager, Commercial systems and other related systems is an asset What You'll Get: Compelling rewards package including base compensation, eligibility for annual bonus, retirement savings, share plan, health benefits, personal wellness, and volunteer opportunities.
