In this role as a Trade Effluent Manager, you will be responsible for controlling a key business area that influences the outcome of the strategic objectives of ‘responsive customer service’, ‘removing wastewater effectively’ and ‘looking after the environment’. This will encompass the control of all medium to high risk non household discharges (there are pprox.. 300,000 non household customers and 2000 trade effluent accounts). Managing a team of six Trade Effluent Inspectors, business analysts and a wholesale case advisor located throughout our geographical region, this role requires you to support, coach and mentor your direct reports to deliver an efficient account management, compliance, regulation, monitoring and wholesale billing services to our customers within our Wastewater region to protect our business from the impact of these discharges. It is critical for you to effectively manage to ensure that no failure (infrastructure and environmental permits) of assets (below and above ground) is attributed to a trade effluent discharge. Being the owner for all trade effluent company policies and procedures and IT systems, you will be responsible for developing new policies/procedures for changing legislation, tariff / commercial requirements and Market Reform compliance. This role gives you the exposure to be Southern Water’s representative for trade effluent on the national forum and to governmental bodies for influencing future legislation and policy. Your key accountabilities would include: · Being in charge for operational risk management of trade effluent control so that there are no asset failures or pollutions (and associated company fines) attributable to sustained consent breaches. · Responsible for ensuring that wholesale billing of £10 million/year is recovered fairly, timely and with a service that is gives customer satisfaction. · Leading the development and implementation of improvement initiatives for improved account management, asset/environmental protection, income recovery. · Ensuring that all trade effluent processes/team actions are compliant with the Water Industry Act 1991 and Trade Effluent Quality Manual (for which they are the Owner). To be successful in this role, you would need to have: · Degree qualified in a relevant profession (science or engineering) or equivalent level of experience · Expert understanding of municipal wastewater processes and legislation relating to the waste and sewerage industry · Excellent leadership, project management, communication and influencing skills · Ability to understand best value in different scenarios (short and long term) with good decision-making ability using limited information. · Ability to prioritise, be flexible and accomplish tasks in a challenging environment, think on their feet. · Able to facilitate the best outcome for Southern Water and its customers with your Persuasive and convincing presentation skills. · Ability to build relationships across directorates, functional teams and external bodies/customers for collaborative working This is an extremely varied role with significant opportunities for engaging with multiple stakeholders, empowered to make your own decisions in driving development and strategy for your team!
