Incorporated in 1955, Ocean Steel has grown to become one of the largest steel fabricators in Eastern Canada and one of the most respected steel suppliers on the Eastern Seaboard. It services several markets, including all of Canada, the Eastern United States, Bermuda and the Caribbean. Ocean designs, fabricates and erects structural steel for buildings and bridges. It also manufactures and installs platework, such as breechings, stacks, ducts, penstocks, process & storage tanks and custom process-equipment. Ocean Steel has two, modern New Brunswick-based plants in Saint John and in Fredericton. We currently have sales offices in Saint John, New Brunswick, Brampton, Ontario, and Burlington, Massachusetts.
Job Summary
The Industrial Engineer is responsible for analyzing operations, collaborating with personnel to design optimal workflow processes, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring that final products meet established quality standards.
Responsibilities
Review production processes, systems, and procedures with the intent of promoting a culture of continuous improvement
Make recommendations and implement continuous improvement programs for production and maintenance processes, as well as processes upstream from production
Assist in the overall planning and execution of capital projects
Monitor market for production and associated technology and make upgrade recommendations to management for new equipment or other systems that would increase plant efficiency
Assist with the continuous improvement of process procedures to resolve production issues
Develop and maintain KPIs relating to production quality and efficiency
Help develop and manage process documentation and share production efficiency analyses with operations as needed
Technical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in civil, industrial or mechanical engineering
Strong knowledge of production machinery, processes, and standards
Previous experience or co-op placement in structural steel considered a definite asset
Business Requirements
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Experience with time management and creating Key Performance Indicators (“KPI’s”)
Desire to work well in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, and customer-focused environment
Cultural Requirements
Ability to work productively with a unionized, hourly workforce in a plant environment
Good communication and interpersonal skills with individuals of diverse backgrounds & disciplines, including various levels of management
A team player with the desire to work collaboratively with others to improve existing processes
