The Apprentice Welding Process Specialist is a growth position to learn Welding Processes and Welding Applications through working closely with an Advance Fabrication Specialist for the purpose of gaining experience in welding applications and using the Airgas Sales Methodology. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direction and guidance of the Weld Process Specialist (WPS), work on small Airgas accounts in order to learn the welding processes and applications through the apprenticeship. Travel to customer sites with a WPS to understand the customers’ current welding processes and gain an understanding of what welding applications Airgas has to offer the customer. Develop an understanding of how to increase sales and margin profit through Engineered Cost Reduction within one year from DOH. Learn about Airgas Sales tools (Efficiency Analysis, Weld Surveys, Unlocking the Hidden Costs of Welding) and how to use them to gain and retain business. Learn about flexible and fixed automation applications and CNC cutting systems and be able to explain them to customers. Understand how to listen to customer sales calls and learn about how to provide product and application training to customers. Understand the types of customer inquiries and how to satisfactorily resolve customer complaints. Become proficient in Airgas Sales tools (Efficiency Analysis, Weld Surveys, Unlocking the Hidden Costs of Welding) and how to use them to gain and retain business. Responsible for adherence to company policies including safety and the use of personal protective equipment. As the understanding and knowledge of all the above increases, may take basic questions from customers. Must conduct themselves in a safe manner at all times and also be a proactive advocate of safety; promoting safety by example and aggressive promotion of safety with other associates and customers. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each job duty satisfactorily. Required Education: Associate’s Degree Welding and 3-5 years experience with welding industry experience Military Weld training acceptable or Bachelor’s degree (Engineering - preferred) from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ongoing training for Advanced Fabrication will be provided. Required Length & Type of Experience: SAP or similar software system experience. Intermediate skills operating a computer in a Windows based environment is recommended. TQM, Lean, or Six Sigma background. Working knowledge of Safety and OSHA regulations preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Sales/customer facing experience preferred. Demonstrate a strong interest in welding processes and applications Demonstrate basic knowledge and understanding of welding. Must have a good presentation and communication skills with confidence to permit selling to high-level officers of customer companies. Must be able to apply mathematical formulas that quantify the costs associated with the processes so analysis and comparisons may be created. Ability to be a team player with a positive attitude towards other associates, customers and work environment. Must be self-motivated, success oriented, mechanically, technically and detail oriented. Ability to be flexible and able to “shift gears” in the face of interrupted schedules, canceled appointments and unfulfilled promises. Must be proficient with computer applications including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, material safety data sheets, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Membership within organizations are desirable Must have a valid driver’s license.
