GFL's Ottawa site is looking for a chemical operator to join Team Green! Key Responsibilities: Go out to clients’ sites to inventory, pack, and remove their chemical wastes. Prepare shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for transport. Receive all client waste – both bulk liquids/solids and containerized. Take samples from waste vehicles and containers for lab analysis. Ensure waste is processed in a timely and safe manner. Ensure incoming waste conforms with acceptance protocol. Ensure safe operation and procedures are always followed. Complete paperwork properly & ensure it is submitted. Complete job hazard risk assessments Ensure superior customer service is provided. Notify the Shift Supervisor/General Manager of any defects, damages, mistakes, errors, contamination, spills, other incidents, or accidents that are identified. Attend Household Hazardous Waste collection events to identify, classify and separate waste. Prepare necessary waste manifest documents for transport back to Stevenage facility. Other tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills & Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English. Must be able to work day shift. Comfortable working weekend shifts. (mainly Saturday, with 2 - 3 Sunday events each season) Degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Environmental Technology, or equivalent. Familiarity with waste management regulations, Ontario regulation 347, Transportation of Dangerous Goods is an asset. Previous hazardous and non-hazardous waste management experience is an asset. Mechanical aptitude, including knowledge and use of hand tools is an asset Must be motivated, able to multi-task, and work effectively in a team environment. Must be safety conscious and detail oriented. Must be comfortable working in a mostly outdoor environment (4 seasons). Must be willing and able to report to work clean shaven (respirator safety). Ability to follow procedures and execute work with minimal supervision. Ability to repetitively lift 40 lbs. above waist. Valid G class Driver’s license, with a clean driver abstract.
