The Opportunity: The Mental Health Clinician ensures optimum delivery of mental health support to residents and clinical nursing staff through utilization of the nursing process and functioning as an integral member of the management team. The Mental Health Clinician takes direction from and works in collaboration with the Director of Care, to support the overall management of all care functions within the facility to ensure that the highest standard of resident quality care is delivered and maintained at all times. What Is In It For You: Ensure resident satisfaction and continuous quality improvement initiatives are promoted. Assists nursing staff ensuring that initial / ongoing assessments and care plans are developed, implemented and reviewed. Assigns, and supervises nursing staff. Responsible for the management of mental health issues related to residents/family/advocates. Promotes and ensures interdisciplinary approach to resident care. Acts as a role model for nursing staff by demonstrating clinical expertise in mental health and comprehensive knowledge in the delivery of mental health practices. Provides ongoing staff development and education to improve the mental health program Knowledge/experience with MDS/Care Management systems. Responsible for overall supervision of the entire building in absence of senior management. Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents). Uphold and promote the organization values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Code of Conduct. Complete other duties as assigned. What You Will Need: Experience as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse. Must hold or be eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta. Minimum 4 years of crisis assessment and stabilization within an Addiction and Mental Health community setting experience required. Awareness of community agencies and resources for addiction and mental health clients (both inside and outside of AHS) is an asset. Training in critical incident stress management preferred. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Nursing leadership role with comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices and techniques as they relate to mental health long term care. Training in Psychological First Aid required. Knowledgeable about current nursing and medical practices and procedures, laws, standards, regulations, and guidelines relating to the Continuing Care sector. Knowledge related to current and applicable Alberta health legislation and standards. Demonstrates understanding and adherence to applicable regulated practice and ethical standards and privacy of information policies, workplace safety and health, knowledge/experience with MDS /Care Management systems. Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary community health team and to accept and request directions as required.
