A significant part of the course will look at police powers and the impact of the Charter on the investigative process. We will cover trending issues in search and seizure, arrest and detention as well as the right to counsel and the right to silence. Topics will likely include, "carding", the search of computers and cell phones, police surveillance, the challenge of search warrants as well as the dynamics between police and suspects. The trial and pre-trial procedures will likely include the right to a trial within a reasonable time as well as the jury selection process. An LL.B., J.D., or equivalent is required for this position. Membership in the Law Society of Ontario, or equivalent, in good standing is also required. The successful candidate will have significant practical experience in the area of Canadian criminal law and procedure. This candidate will further be up to date on Canadian criminal law and procedure. Prior teaching experience will be considered an asset.
