We're Hiring!
We are now accepting applications for a new, part-time Counsellor to join our School-Based Concurrent Program. The School-Based Concurrent Program helps youth to improve their mental health, and to develop a healthy lifestyle without reliance on substance use.
The successful candidate will collaborate with School District 23 to provide counseling services to youth attending an alternate programs school within the school district.
Hours / Schedule:
Part-Time, Permanent, 20-hour position
Services will be provided in the school setting and in the community. Please be aware that this is a year-round position operating during school hours.
Responsibilities:
Counsellors must be able to apply a range of treatment modalities, which will vary based on the specific needs, and level / intensity of the service required.
The specific responsibilities of the position include:
Completing mental health and substance use assessments.
Creating and implementing treatment plans.
Working in consultation with school-based teams and collateral professionals.
Providing education and engaging in community planning activities.
Other tasks as described in the job description for this position.
Preferred Education and Experience:
A masters-level degree in a relevant discipline (MSW, MA in Counselling or Psychology, etc.) is preferred.
Candidates with a bachelors-level degree and extensive (i.e.: 3+ years) mental health and / or substance misuse counselling experience will be considered.
Knowledge and experience in suicide risk assessment, safety planning and treatment is a strong asset.
To be successful in your role, you’ll also need:
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and verbal / written communication skills.
Be detail-oriented, organized and efficient.
Be skilled at managing multiple concurrent projects, assignments and tasks requested from multiple sources.
Be capable of working independently, and frequently under pressure.

Given the nature of our work, please note that all shortlisted candidates:
Need a valid BC Driver's License, regional insurance, and a reliable personal vehicle.
Must undergo a screening process, including a criminal record search.
Wage / Benefits:
$ 35.25 – $ 36.75 based on relevant experience and education.
Upon successful completion of a trial period, this position is eligible for a full benefit package (including dental plan, vision coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage, long-term disability plan, and RRSP or TFSA contributions); as well as accrued vacation and sick time at 5.8% - above BC Employment Standards!
