Reporting to the Director of Nutrien Business Services PMO, the Senior Manager, Project Management Centre of Excellence is accountable for shaping and managing the PMO practices and governance that lead to business alignment, collaborative partnerships, disciplined execution, and business performance.
What you will do:
PMO Governance, Standards & Reporting
Establish and maintain project governance frameworks that ensure consistent oversight, accountability, and decision-making across all projects and programs.
Define and enforce project lifecycle controls, including stage gates, risk management protocols, and escalation processes.
Support executive and steering committee engagement through structured reporting, dashboards, and governance forums.
Develop and maintain standardized project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid) aligned with enterprise strategy and best practices.
Create and update project templates, tools, and documentation standards to promote consistency and quality in project & portfolio execution.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, regulatory requirements, and audit readiness as it pertains to project delivery.
Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and success metrics for project and portfolio performance.
Oversee the creation of dashboards and reporting frameworks using tools like Power BI or PPM platforms.
Provide actionable insights and trend analysis to senior leadership to inform strategic planning and resource allocation.
Process Excellence & Continuous Improvement Governance, Standards & Reporting
Establish and maintain process excellence and continuous improvement frameworks that ensure consistent oversight, accountability, and decision-making across all business improvement initiatives.
Develop and maintain standardized process excellence and continuous improvement methodologies.
Create and update templates, tools, and documentation standards to promote consistency and quality in process excellence and continuous improvement.
Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and success metrics for process excellence.
Oversee the creation of dashboards and reporting frameworks.
Provide actionable insights and trend analysis to senior leadership to inform strategic planning and resource allocation.
Capability Building
Design and lead initiatives to strengthen project management, process excellence and continuous improvement skills across the organization, including Communities of Practice (CoP), training programs, and workshops.
Serve as a strategic advisor and mentor to project and program managers, offering guidance on methodology application, risk mitigation, and stakeholder engagement.
Facilitate regular learning sessions, retrospectives, and communities of practice to foster knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
Conduct project management maturity assessments to identify gaps and opportunities for development.
Build tailored improvement roadmaps and support their execution across business units and delivery teams
Promote a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous learning
Act as a change agent to embed project management and process excellence throughout the organization.
Strategic Alignment & Oversight
Ensure project and program objectives are directly aligned with Nutrien’s key focus areas (KPIs) and strategies.
Provide updates to executive leadership on program status, strategic risks, interdependencies, and performance against KPIs, as needed.
Deliver insights that enable data-driven decision-making and proactive course correction.
Maintain visibility across portfolios to monitor alignment, progress, and benefits realization.
Enable synergies by identifying opportunities for integration, standardization, and reuse of best practices across the PMO.
Drive a continuous feedback loop between strategic planning, execution, and performance management.
Tool Enablement & Optimization
Define the overall strategy and roadmap for project management and process excellence tools.
Establish governance around tool usage, data integrity, user access, and change management protocols.
Train teams on standardized tools, templates, and systems that support efficient and effective project execution.
Lead the implementation and continuous enhancement of project and portfolio management (PPM) tools to support planning, execution, tracking, and reporting.
Customize and configure tools to align with evolving business needs, project methodologies, and reporting standards.
Continuously refine resources and toolkits based on feedback and evolving organizational needs.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
Establish project quality assurance protocols such as reviews, audits, and health checks to ensure adherence to methodology and best practices.
Monitor quality metrics across the PMO and recommend corrective actions as needed.
Collect and analyze feedback from project teams, stakeholders, and post-implementation reviews to identify recurring challenges.
Conduct regular maturity assessments to gauge the effectiveness of PM practices and identify opportunities to elevate performance.
Benchmark internal practices against industry standards and recommend enhancements to remain competitive and future ready.
Create roadmaps for progressing maturity levels across the organization.
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
Provide vision and strategic direction for the Project Management CoE, aligning with corporate goals and initiatives.
Act as a thought leader in elevating project delivery excellence across the organization.
Lead and mentor cross-functional project teams, promoting accountability, collaboration, and performance excellence.
Build strong relationships with senior leaders, functional heads, and key business stakeholders to ensure alignment on project priorities, goals, and success criteria.
Serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to executive sponsors and decision-makers.
Facilitate stakeholder engagement across all levels to build buy-in for PMO standards, frameworks, and initiatives.
What you will bring:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, IT, or a related field.
Experience: 10+ years of project management and 4+ years of leadership experience with corporate-based teams.
Certifications: Project management and change management certifications are valued.
Problem-Solving: Proven ability to identify issues, develop creative solutions, and engage appropriate resources at all levels.
Leadership & Collaboration: Ability to lead by example, foster collaboration, and drive stakeholder engagement.
Execution & Prioritization: Strong ability to prioritize tasks and deliver on commitments effectively.
Decision-Making & Facilitation: Demonstrated ability to make informed decisions and facilitate discussions for high-quality outcomes.
Financial Management: Ability to collect, analyze and report financial information across multiple portfolios.
Continuous Improvement: Strong focus on driving efficiencies and implementing best practices.
Business Acumen & Systems Thinking: Familiarity with project performance, organizational development, and enterprise-wide impact assessment.
