Working as part of the Grant Development Services unit and collaborating with other cross-functional teams, the incumbent assists with all aspects of pre-award support for large-scale grant applications and is responsible for managing research outreach and other related activities. In this role, your responsibilities will include: Pre-Award Management Directs and implements the pre-award management processes of both internal and external large-scale, interdisciplinary research grants to ensure delivery of funding to researchers at the uOttawa. Acts as the liaison between granting councils and grant funding organizations, research facilitators and administrators, and researchers within the uOttawa. Conducts thorough verification to ensure compliance with university, granting agency and other relevant regulations. Provides expert advice to researchers and faculty/institute research administrators in the pre-award management of grant -funded projects. Analyses problems with grants on a case by case basis, recommends an action plan to rectify problems and works directly with researchers to implement the action plan. Reviews grant applications prior to submission to the agencies, verifying that these are complete, accurate, and meet compliance regulations, including financials, ethics and other certificates, and that all requirements of the granting agency are met. Advises applicants for missing and/or incorrect information and suggests changes to be made. Ensures timely acquisition of signatures and accurate submission of grant applications within deadline. Provides expert advice and problem-solving support on the use of electronic grant submission systems. Provides expert advice to the research community in applying for large-scale, interdisciplinary grants, in order to facilitate the preparation of applications, assisting researchers with application issues and ensuring that all research requirements are met, assisting with grant revisions, liaising between granting agency and researcher regarding the interpretation and clarification of agency and University guidelines, procedures and regulations. Internal Funding Programs Management Promotes the Internal Pilot Project Funding Program and provides expert advice on the application process. Reviews submitted applications to ensure completeness and eligibility. Manages the review committee recruitment and the application reviews process by the internal grant selection committees. Coordinates the decision-making process, records comments and award recommendations. Synthesizes and conveys comments and decisions to applicants, including constructive feedback (often of a technical nature) to unsuccessful applicants. Research Outreach and Communication Develops and delivers workshops and information sessions on research management practices to educate the research community and to inform them of changes in processes, grant funding programs, grants and contracts, and regulations. Communicates funding opportunities and program requirements (including deadlines) to the research community by monitoring funding agency announcements and websites. Develops funding announcements and ensures the distribution of such announcements and funding program reference materials to the research community through a variety of communication media, including an electronic list-serve and posting on the website. Develops and implements strategies for the effective communication of funding opportunities. Other Participates in development and implementation of internal policies and procedures related to pre- and pre-award management of internal and external granting programs, in the development and implementation of internal business processes to improve their strategic relevance and effectiveness. Performs all other related duties as assigned by the Director, Grant Development Services. What you will bring: Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. 5 years of relevant experience in a university, research administration, or research environment. Excellent knowledge and ability to interpret the principles and methods of research administration, granting program management and research contracting. Proven ability to work and achieve objectives within an evolving complex policy and procedure framework. Excellent comprehension and critical analysis skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and French. Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to work in a high volume, deadline driven, environment while maintaining attention to detail.
