Job Summary:
The Aggregate Crusher Operator, under the supervision of the Projects and Infrastructure Supervisor, is responsible for performing essential duties related to crushing aggregate for road gravelling and ensuring the maintenance of equipment. This role plays a crucial part in the effective operation of the Municipal District of Taber's (MDT) public works and maintenance functions. The primary focus is to produce high-quality aggregate materials used in road construction.
Daily Work Activities Include:
?Coordinate with the Public Works and Infrastructure Manager to manage and execute crushing operations within MDT divisions.
Perform pre/post trip inspections of equipment, report defects, and review crew/subordinate inspections as required.
Supervise equipment and personnel, providing necessary training for operations.
Carry out general service work on municipal equipment as needed.
Ensure compliance with MDT policies regarding equipment operations and operator responsibilities.
Adhere to all safety regulations and requirements applicable to the job.
Participate in safety meetings, promoting the importance of safety in the workplace.
Oversee equipment maintenance and repairs, including the crusher, loader, and trailers.
Supervise preventative maintenance of equipment and maintain accurate records (e.g., daily gravel totals).
Assist the mechanic with maintenance inspections.
Operate equipment safely as directed.
Attend meetings related to Public Works operations.
Stay informed about new methods and equipment to enhance department efficiency.
Provide recommendations for repair or improvement based on area surveillance.
Collaborate with and assist employees in the Public Works Department.
Participate in training sessions specific to equipment operation needs.
Perform other municipal duties as assigned by the Public Works and Infrastructure Manager and Direct Supervisor.
Requirements
Education and Knowledge Required:
High school graduation or GED, or a willingness to upgrade.
Valid Class 5 driver's license, or a willingness to upgrade.
Experience and Technical Skills Required:
Experience in the operation and maintenance of light and heavy construction equipment.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in written and verbal communication.
Basic technological proficiency and computer literacy.
Strong organizational skills to maintain even, productive work output.
Willingness to work overtime as required.
